Damn right. Especially when there are no brakes, icy, and dressed in latex. No wonder they had to put up nets to catch the GS (giant slalom) skiers when they fell!
Ahhh. Bring on the winter events!

i'm avoiding watching or listening to it - ANY of it

i'm NOT anti-chinese, but their treatment of Tibetians and whichever of their own citizens was unlucky enough to have a house standing where the authorities wanted to build the olympic village upsets me ......

what totally DISGUSTS me, however, is the fact that all the participating countries are STILL participating, making this a triumph for the perpetrators of human rights abuse, whilst paying lip-service to the importance of human rights

Wouldn't be surprised - the feeling of really digging you edges in for a nice carving turn isn't that different from the feeling when hanging off going around a nice corner.

Can't tell from the photo - is it the Herminator? If it is, his recovery from that biking accident is quite a fascinating tale Lucky to keep his leg - miraculous that he's competing again.

You're right, or railing a deep rut on an MX'r but it's not often you have to lift you hand up to stop it dragging on the ground when you ride.

    Yep It's the Herminator alright.

I just saw Mt Hutt on the telly, I can see why you might have got a bit over excited!

If your hand isn't on the handle bar - you'd better be showing off or you're most likely in BIG trouble

    I love this photo:

Hermann Maier has got both balls and balance - I'm sure he'd be good on a bike too.

Yeah, the snow base is phenomenal!
I'm pretty crap at skiing in the loose and/or choppy stuff - and naturally that's where I lost control, going a bit too fast. It would have looked fairly spectacular - I snowballed for about 20 meters before the right-hand ski clipped out... then I slid another 30 meters down before I stopped. Snow everywhere. Would have been great fun except my bindings have somehow been set to 8.5 din - and I usually run 6 (I can't for the world see why a ski shop would have mucked around with that when giving them a tune up...)
I just hope I'll be fit for fight ASAP.

Yeah, the Olympics. Its a shame, I just can't get excited about them and yet this is the premier sports event on the planet. Thousands of the finest athletes in the world, all gathered together in one place, doing a huge variety of different sports. Something for everyone.

    And yet......sigh......

Maybe its the gleaming white smiles of the eager puppy-dog TV presenters, their bounteous enthusiasm which rings a false note, perhaps the pure jingoism of concentrating on NZ events - whatever, I struggle to get excited.

Personally I find swimming as exciting as watching grass grow. Love gymnastics, and races/field events in the stadium, and some other sports. The problem is that we don't see the best of the best - instead we are forced to watch countless interviews, plays and replays of things NZ athletes are in. I'd far rather watch great athletes of every nation.

    Rant over!!
