Bugger, they have always had the best service in these parts. Fingers crossed for a buyer that wants to keep it that way

Waikato has lost two shops in as many months, and a few looking shaky.
One door shuts, another opens. Tis the way it goes.

unbelievable to hear when motorcycling should be a boom with fuel prices and high dairy products, but after having worked in bikeshops most of my adult life although not for the last 5 years,it always ceased to amaze me that joe public always thought thier local bike shops were ripping the pants off them in profit hand over foot, which in fact is quite the opposite

I know what you mean. I have a friend who claims that the local dealer (5 star, hope you dont mine me nameing) rips them off 'so bad' but yet i have recived bloddy good deals and as good service. So i will continue to go to 5star (and show loyalty) and i fully, 100% recomend them.

Dam shame really, they had a good range of bikes and accessories. They recently extended thier showroom as well and it was looking blardy awesome, but i know from personal experience how much of a hit moving or extensions can have on any business. It can take a long time to recoup the money spent. So lets hope they reopen the shop and give some of thier old employees thier income back again

That's a real shame, I got most of my Yam & Suzi parts from there in the past (haven't needed much lately) but would far rather give money for decent service than to local dealers of those Marques (well Yam moved some while ago, but I will always return where I get good service).
Paul pass on my sympathies to David. Hope it gets back up & running & or the staff can find more work soon.

Maybe Phil would consider coming out of retirement & buying it back? Seemed like a genuine guy.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.

Having worked in the retail bike trade as a supplier for the last couple of years I can assure you - loads of the guys that run these shops are in it for the passion and seem to be afraid to make too much money from their clients. Sure there are a few unabashed profiteers out there but slim margins and high overheads make it tough going.
Really sorry to hear about Turnbulls closing and best of luck to all of the guys.
Palmy needs you all in the industry!

    Hi Paul,
It was a huge shock when I initially heard the news.
My first thoughts were of you guys, and how you couldn't even go in to retrieve your coffee mug!

It's good somebody is looking at buying the place... really good.
Shame the "Good Will" might be a little shot to pieces... well, it will be unless the customers who have been adversely affected can be assured they get their bikes/ kit etc back with little hiccups....

Anyhow, hope you get back to work soonest... and I can pop in and catch up sometime.

It is amazing how people shoot from the hip when they don't know all the facts though eh?

    That is true....
    Very true.

I can tell you though the people of Palmy are actually crap at supporting their local businesses.
This is a bit of a broad brush, but many are okay with looking around Palmy, then heading a couple of hours in any direction and getting a better deal!
Then expect help from the local shop!

This isn't really aimed at just motorcyclists, and not taking a dig at you Wellingtonians at pushing a sale to the people of Palmy, just an observation that seems to happen a lot! With all sorts of things....
I guess it is called compitition though...

I must admit I did get my bike from another district, but will always take it to the same guys for maintenance (that I can't do, or don't have time to do), and support the locals first.... Shame said shop is closed at the moment....
