Most Honda coils fit numerous models (I think these are common to many of the VT/VF/VFR series bikes) - have you tried Southland Honda or Brent Scammell out at Winton?

Couldn't see any VT coils listed in their parts list, but always woth a call if you get stuck.
Sure, a lot of other coils may work - the biggest issue is usually mounting them securely and tidily, that's assuming you want to keep the bike original looking. If it's a 'rat bike' then suddebly there's a hell of a lot more choice, lol

Cool - I was confident they would be able to help you, Brent and Maria are great people and they've got a good team out there. Well worth the quick trip out from the big smoke

It pays to test the entire system, not just guess at the problem...start at checking the spark plugs, then the plug caps, then the HT leads working your way back and checking all connections for crusty white or green build-up.
Get a manual and a multi-meter and go thru the tests that are shown in the electrical section of the manual.
A lot of money gets wasted guessing the problem and its totally the wrong approach at trouble shooting

    Hi Acidburn,

I work at Southland Honda as Workshop manager,
I have just read that you wouldn't recommend us, but did not leave a reason why. I am sorry to hear that.

I have talked to the parts man about this, let me explain this from out point of view.
We have available to us parts books that we have brought over the years (which usually consist of bikes we serviced regularly), as well as this we have electronic parts cd's which includes a big selection of bikes (your particular bike is not on this form of media), also we now have available to us the honda world wide parts webside which lets us search via frame/engine or the takashiki number (ie mc-19).
Your bike, being an older, import model, wasn't on any of these. We sent a P & A to Blue wing honda, who replied with the correct part number and that the coil was x-japan and would retail for $127.87 each.
With this information (we recieved the P & A reply on the 10th) he tried to ring your number about 4 or 5 times over the 10th and 11th only to have the phone ring once then drop the line each time (which seemed strange?), therefore we could not leave a message or inform you of the price (I assume this is the reason that you wouldn't recommend us?). After having no luck contacting you we put all P&A's in a book and store them incase you decide to call in.

The reason we also don't just get any old coil for you is that in the past we have got random coils down and turns out they were different resistance etc, also being an electrical part, BWH will not take it back if it is opened or an indent item (ie x-japan), so we have been stuck with stuff before!
Brent is a good sort, and it is good he had a set there you could visually see and test to determine that they could do the job, which saved alot of time waiting for parts! (x japan stuff is usually about 2-3 weeks for us)

Anyways, the fact of the matter is, you got it all sorted, and I am presuming that all is going well the bike is up and running!
Thanks for coming to us anyway to try, and I hope you don't judge our business solely on this now you know we tried contacting you but couldn't.
