A few pics of Ocean Beach today

Decided to have a look down Ocean Beach this afternoon.

After all the rain we've been having, the rivers have really washed a lot
of stuff down, making it interesting

    1. 1st Gate
    2. This was the third river crossing, chickened out of this one. Just a drop into the river.
    3. 1st gate on the way back
    4. Mind the drop
    5. Stay on the track
    6. 2nd crossing on the way back, walked it the 1st time, wasn't sure how deep it was going to get.

Still a good place to come for an adventure ride.

    1. Breather stop, after river crossing
    2. Great place for a bach

Looks like you had an amazing ride today!

Could you tell a HB boy where Ocean beach is and how you got there?

Used to ride out there a lot myself, when I used to live down that way.
Ocean Beach is in Palliser Bay, South Wairarapa. (Well, the Ocean Beach that BusaJim was at, anyway)

turtlemans got you pointed in the right direction.

Heres an overview pic for you.
Basically from Featherston you can head down west lake road.
Normally on a loop ride, you'd take the east west access road round to
    Martinborough or Lake Ferry.
But in this case keep riding straight ahead, the road stops and the beach
    starts

Yeah good one Jim. This is the Ocean Beach down our way not the one North of Waimarama that's causing the fuss over its subdivision. Sometimes we have ridden right around the coast from Orongorongo but the land owners aren't as friendly as they used to be.

I should have posted it up before I went.
Wasn't really sure if I could get up in time

Will post it up next time. Its not a very long ride though.
The end of the road ( if you can make it past that last ford ) is fenced off
    with a locked gate.

This is as far as Pampa and I were able to get last time we went down there.
And thats not to much further past that ford.
You can see the row of fences in the background.

Yes there is. It is the route that is followed (only the other direction) by that big mountain bike race in February (the Big Coast) I've done it many times in a Landrover ambulance following the cyclists but would love to do it on the DR. It would go along the Pencarrow Road then up and over the hill to the Wainui Coast Road and then through Orongorongo Station. Pretty hard to get permission these days I understand.

    Nice one!

A cuppla of pics from Red Rocks last Saturday after the office veeeery nice (although a wee ride less than 45')

The sand at this point was very soft and deep ... I'd like to get to the end of red rocks sometime but a just a few k after this it was very nasty and was already late so turned back.

    (Daunting view)

    (Few k later)

    time to head home

Awesome pictures - especially the first one with the sun beam. Wonder how far up the loose slopes one could get

How did you go getting the gear shift shaft repaired after the CCA weekend? (hope I've got the right person). Did it involve a complete engine tear down or did BMW come up with something clever?

    Cheers R

P.S. you might want to reduce the picture size ASAP less the mods deal to you. Info on max sizes here.
