Yes silicon is death to paint, the best and only product to get it off with is acetone

Be careful with acetone. Its toxic and extremely flammable.
Wear gloves and a mask.

Exactly what plastics are you trying to paint Frosty? Are they solvent sensitive or not? There are several options that could be used to get rid of that crap (silicone). It just depends on what you're trying to do.

Actually don't ask me why but when its small bits of plastic I've found a soak in HOT soapy water helps heaps

If you read the spec sheets you will see that Dupont does not recommend painting over a surface that has been cleaned with Prep-Sol alone without hitting it with something else (i.e. Final Klean). They complement each other in that way. ... Prep sol is more of a degreaser in my book while Final Klean is a pre-paint cleaner.

i use water based silicone on plastics, the stuff they use in paint shops,... the oil based silicone you put on tyres .. paint shops HATE that stuff... but what the hell if you clean cars for a living like i do its the only thing that stays on the tyres
