Wasn't so much freaked out as wondering "wtf! Was that on purpose or what?!" Then.. "Phew I still have my head attatched"Like I said in the first post, it didn't happen on a motorway or anything... Was in the middle of the twisties.
I was going around a right hander, the car was on coming so it would of been a left turn for them. Lately I've been noticing I've gotten into a bad habit of riding close to the centre line in right hand turns so in the past week or so I've been trying to take the outside line around right hand turns... I think that just saved me!

Too damn winded to turn around, follow them and get the number plate, but I suspect that is the best solution.
Ouch!! That would of hurt soo much! How are you after the weekend btw?

I thought about turnin around to catch up and see what the deal was... But considering it was double yellows, narrow road and very few driveways for at least 4 kms it wasn't worth endangering me or other road users to turn around.

hey jas, good to hear your ok,
id say that if the car was comming around the corner its possible that the door of the car wasn't shut & came open on the corner.
best to stay to the left when posable,
i had a close call going around the east coast, car & caravan comming the other way, caravan was half way across my side of the road comming around the corner, it was only luck that i was on the left of my lane!

His excuse? "Bloody motorcyclists think they own the road. I get sick and tired waiting in traffic and these smart-arses just ride down the middle. I thought I'd give him a taste of having to wait."

Idiot. Cop did him for careless use of a motor vehicle.
Nice one good to see they don't just ticket for speed all the time.

What a tosser, maybe he wanted to you...

I had it happen to me in the cage once upon a time, was outside a school during School C exams (remember School C...) when a kid late for his exam swung the door of mummies illegally parked Audi directly into the front fender of my Valiant. The beasty Valiant tore the Audi door all the way back like a suicide door and left a little scratch in the paint of my fender. Just had to keep my , deny any responsibility for the accident and exchange details. Never heard from them again.

Had a bottle thrown at me while riding many years ago. Have had more cars than I can even recall move over to block me as I split lanes. This was almost a daily event. Hit more car mirrors/bumpers with my mirrors or foot pegs than I can remember while splitting lanes.

Was with a friend and he opened his door into oncoming traffic and a friendly bus took it off for him.

Have had a few women show me their tits over the years while I was riding. I guess that full face helmet and black visor allows them to think I am good looking and worthy of seeing their tits?

Yeah, the cagers, they hate it. This is just one of the reasons why we (the royal "we") split f*cking gently.

I would also suggest that it may have been accidental.

If it was deliberate, you'd have to wonder what has caused that person to despise motorcyclists to that extent.

If you hit my car whilst splitting, you'd be well advised to remember the car to look for the next morning... Sure I'd get a ticket for having a 'senior moment' that ultimately saw you over the handlebars and into intensive care, but I'd wager it'd be a small one. Splitting makes sense in stationary traffic imho, but don't fucking hit other peoples vehicles for fucks sake.

Even when they change their position in the road without checking their mirror first?

I had a little asian woman this morning drift into my path as I went past.. I wasn't going more than about 30km/h. She caught me, not the other way around. Does that count as me hitting her?

Yes, you're doing the splitting. It's your place to avoid everyone else.

Oh, I keep forgetting to thank you for your recommendation of the CRG bar end mirrors - that sturdy billet alloy doesn't mark at all no matter how many times you thwack them back against car wing mirrors.
