New low profile Police lights

I spotted some sort of Hilux ute type thing on the road yesterday morning around Te Kuiti. It was painted in full Police livery so I assume it was some sort of rural service vehicle.

It might be how Im reading your post, but just in case your mistakenly identifying Ambulance Services in NZ as Government departments... I can assure you - they are not. But oh wouldnt it be lovely...

It's something about the grill that aways catches my attention first. Lights come later. Different I spose if the copper is sitting behind another vehicle.

I've heard something about the grill before but personally i haven't had a chance to look at it. What exactly is different about the grill? why would they need a different one?

I have also seen these sneaky police lights that look like roof racks.

I agree with the other guy though, I treat every holden as a police car and you don't get stopped. Learn to bloody hate the things.. after a while you get awesome at identifying them.

Huh, so the coppers drive autos eh?

Yep, have done for about 20yrs when they worked out the extra gas for autos was way less than all the fucked clutches they had to replace

I automatically assume all late model holdens are cop cars and drive accordingly.

Me too (and I've seen the new lights too) although cop cars also sit lower and more firmly on the road due to modified suspension, they all have plain steel rims with no hubcaps, no plate frames and a driver who is attentive and can (usually) actually drive. The behaviour is quite different from other commodore drivers (way too passive and controlled) It all adds to your psychic radar screaming away when they're in range

Pretty sure it's just cosmetic. The yellow/blue marks around the grill make it look like the gnashy teeth of some hungry, motorcycle eating robot monster.... or somat like that

Apart from some of the SS or whatever models they've got, with alloys and a spoiler. The second to last ticket I got was from a cop driving a black one of these, and they've got some white ones too with all the "POLICE", stripes, etc gubbins on them.

here you go , they are on triel in all regions , but you ll see them on all cop cars soon , verry hard to spot, other goverment departments eg fire service and ambo have had them for a while, and now the cops are getting in with them

And by the looks of the one windscreen spotted in the background of the first pic it seems as if there may be a few unmarked Porsches around soon too?

They just don't look like lights. They're about 10cm high. You don't click until you can read "Police" on the side of the car. This one exited Williams and Adams Abel Smith St site on Friday at about midday.

Have you thought about maybee it might just be time to visit a optometerist.

There was a thing about these in the paper a few weeks ago.
Claims were:
LED lights = cheap to run and less strain on electrics of cop car.
Low profile = fuel savings.
