London, UK; bikers to get use of bus lanes

From 5th January 2009, motorcycles will be allowed in the ‘majority’ of London’s bus lanes in an 18 month trial, said Mayor Boris Johnson.

Mr Johnson, said "I have long been staggered that while motorcyclists can use bus lanes in many other cities, they were not allowed to use the routes that criss-cross the capital. One of the ways we can ease congestion is by encouraging more people to get on their bike, whether pedal or powered, and I believe they should be able to share our bus lanes successfully and safely."

    Well done Mr Johnson.

You will not be surprised to learn that the cyclist lobby tried to block this action, as they wanted the lanes all to themselves.

Really?! That's not what the nice man from Transit told us last year. This needs investigating!

Sorry. I am already ignoring that silly ruling.
My vehicle is 50% occupied so easily meets the requirements.

Me too. Bikes are definitely a high occupancy vehicle and fulfil all the aims of reducing congestion etc etc. Anyway the man from Transit (Peter McCombs) told us last year that we would be able to use the lanes. He even came to a BRONZ meeting to tell us about it.

Wicked. I'm glad they are doing this back in the UK. Bikes are meant to be able to use the bus lanes here in oz as well, although some power tripping cop forgot that the other day and pulled me over for using one. Knob.
