Backbench MP - i.e. one with no responsibility other than doign what they are told and making up the numbers - earns in th etop 2% income in NZ, not to mention the perks and gold plated super scheme.
They also have a guarenteed job for 3 years - better job security than most of us. Lose your job and it is out on the street with you, they get 3 months pay to tide them over...

The comment about not having architecture is a bit strange.
The Maori had a highly sophisticated system of defensive architecture that greatly impressed the european military engineers of the 19th century.
Although most of the indians tribes were nomadic, some of the groups did settle and build towns & villages. Just look at the impressive pueblo buildings in the south-west of the US.
