New leathers today!

My better half and I bought jackets and trou from Quasi today, after an early drive down from Whangarei to Hamilton!
The Vengeance jackets and Tourismo trou look to be the bees knees. First actual pair of leathers I've owned, and I'm pretty stoked. They feel so much more "substantial" to my cordura gear I wrote off. I'm looking forward to getting into them tomorrow and going for a blat somewhere. (wife won't let me wear them to bed !!???? Yes I know ..... whats with that ????).

We also "invested" in some Knox Aegis back protectors from Quasi. They are nice and light and fit really well. I'm looking forward to wearing one ... and not using it!

Thanks for sorting stuff out for us Bret, and cutting us a very good deal. Much appreciated. I look forward to hearing what bike you decide to buy !
Also looking forward to hearing when those new gloves come in. They will be a definite purchase!

I find my leather makes me feel a lot more bullet proof. Not always sure that's a good thing

The Aegis is the best back protector I've ever seen. And I looked around a long time to find one that fit properly in my leathers.

Having the coccyx protection is great and it doesn't get in the way at all. Very pleased with mine. to quasi for getting them in for us all.

Funny how people wear a helmet but don't protect their spine huh? Kinda like the crusier riders I saw this morning in full leathers and boots but bare hands

No mate. We were in my wife's car. It would have been a bloody nice day for riding though! We saw lots of bikes on the trip to Hamilton and back (via Big Boys Toys on way home) today.

Yes I can see how you'd feel that way. There is a lot more looking after your bod than you have with cordura, that's for sure.

Mate ... today I saw a guy riding on the motorway in shorts, another guy in a T shirt and leather vest, no gloves, ..... it bloody staggers me what people will wear on a bike. I'm sure they are people who have never binned a bike .... ever. There is no way you'd not wear gloves .... or some kind of protective gear, if you'd ever come off before ....... surely !!!????

Anyway ..... we are really glad we got leathers today. It will mean taking some wet weather gear as well when there is rain, but I'd rather do that than have my waterproof .... but not "roadproof" cordura !! That was a steep learning curve for me last weekend!!

Well I thought that too .... but a few guys here have reported real low speed bins - 30 to 40kmh in cordura gear, and it's worn through and they've got grazed as a result! Now I'm thinking .... ok it's a hassle but I'll wear my wet weather gear over my leathers. Bit more mucking around with gear, coming and going to work .... but skin is bloody hard to repair especially if you need a graft! Very painful, and easily infected. A long slow process coming right. Naaa ... I'm going to be a nana and wear the stuff now !!!! lol

Good stuff mate! I love my Astars jacket- definitely sat around the house for a couple of days in it.

Went for a circuit out to Ngunguru, Tutukaka, Sandy Bay, and through to Hikurangi (checked out the spot I came off last weekend #@%$*&! ), and back home.
The gear felt good to wear. As it's new, it's still stiff, and with that feeling and the back protector on .... I felt like i was bloody bulletproof !! lol. Thank God I didn't push it to much and find that Im not !! lol

A guy went past me at a great rate ,riding a late model naked Triumph of some sort. I don't think he had much protection on (I could have been wrong), but he had a little kid hanging on the back for grim life. The kid just had trou and jersey and helmet from what I could see. I thought man I hope you don't over cook it with that poor kid on the back. That sort of thing scares the crap out of me. I hate to think of what might happen to the kid.

Another guy I passed on the trip, was just cruising along enjoying his new(ish) GSX1400. His number plate was "mupit". Hi mupit if you are on here. Maybe next time we can stop and chat. Nice looking bike you have

I am of an age where I KNOW I am not bulletproof.......and have proven it many times over dammit.....

It's all about risk mitigation, whatever that is.
I started riding back in 1773 or thereabouts, and although I bought a leather jacket (no armour - there wasn't any in those days, and leather was more for being kewl and keeping warm), I had no boots and wore my gloves only when it was cold out. I had a few spills, including writing off my first bike by t-boning a car, yet had few injuries, and no broken bones.
I didn't have a fullface helmet (secondhand) until 1989-ish, and my first boots were bought in 1994, along with my first new fullface.
Bought a poorly fitting secondhand leather jacket (again, no armour) the same year, bought my first leather trou (no armour) in 1998, and didn't get my first armoured jacket until 2000 or 2001.
It's only been the last few years I've worn decent gear, and even then there are odd (and very brief) times when I don't wear gloves, or wear jeans instead of bike pants, but I very rarely go without boots.

The next step after wearing them in (and a bit of weight loss) is to to get them 'tailored'.
Makes a HUGE difference. I did my trou and jacket after about 8 months and finding my jacket became a bit of a sail at speeds (on a closed road, in controlled cirumstanc..... yeah right)
