Me reckons I have the noob/virgin excitement and have days all mixed up. Looked at poster and as it said that it started Fri, so I was planning to head up Fri after work. Now I see that your morning start was Sat, makes far more sense now.

Just might tag along actually, prob safer for me, though I'll just be pottering along at the rear of the field, don't wanna road test my gear.

Cant think of a better way to start my holiday than to start it with a rally, just not sure how to get there is all.

Dry-as and windy, just starting to get packed, oh man, the memory is not good after the 'non-rally' season eh!!

Had the same problem mate, seemed the tent, sleeping bag, tent pegs were everywhere they shouldnt have been.Never seem to have the same amount of room for gear as there was last year. One thing i will avoid at Winchester this year is having to sit around broiling in leathers as ive bought a pair of Quasis fancy jeans with kevlar whatsit in em,great for short jaunts like this one.

Well, I am a bit concerned about the forecast for Saturday (Thursday and Friday look GREAT!) but I think I will go regardless and hope for the best. I will pack tonight and tomorrow morning I will double check the weather forecast then leave nice and early. At this stage I will stick to my plan and cross the strait on the ferry around 6pm - I am not too sure if I will be able to push through to Christchurch Thursday night or stop near Blenheim to sleep and then go from there to Winchester Friday morning.

I can fit my tent, sleeping bag & bedroll under the seat on my scooter, though I might strap the sleeping bag to the tail bag and put some other stuff under the seat. My camera gear completely fills the top box, but I really want to take it to snap a bunch of pics on Saturday. This will be my first camping trip on the scooter - I hope I manage to take everything I need.
