Gmail account 'hacked'

A friend at work has had her personal gmail account which she uses for her photography business 'hacked' and the password has been changed.

She's 99.9% sure she knows who did it, as he's done it before to a previous account she had with a different free email provided. Does anyone know of a way to get into the account or get the password reset ASAP? There is a lot of information she needs to get off the account regarding job applications and paid work which she needs to complete.

At the moment she's only worried about getting access to the information, once that's sorted she'd like to know some ideas you have about how to get the fucker back - he's from the middle east and is still living over there at this time.

How simple are her passwords?
I dont think people realise how easy these things are to get into...

Contacting gmail support would be the only way you could get anything done.

Next i would format her computer, fresh reinstall, to make sure nothing hiding, on her computer,

change passwords on everything she uses, use a password with a mix of letters, numbers, capitals, (which these do not reate to her (age, street # etc) bike models make good passwords aka cbf600F4.

In the meantime - send an email to that address saying hi to the person you suspect is implicated, with a read receipt on... then forward it to them when you receive it...

My guess is one of the following:

1. She used an easy to guess password
2. She used easy to guess password recovery questions
3. Someone has installed a key-stroke logger on one of her machines.

Use pwgen. It makes cryptographically-secure pronouncable passwords that are easy to remember.

I think the real lesson learnt here is more about dating sand niggers than internet security.

The problem is almost certainly that her machine has a trojan, rootkit or similar on it, rather than that she chooses bad passwords.

The real lesson is that this particular sand nigger is a dumbfuck who doesn't know when it's better to quietly soak up information without tipping his hand as to how he's getting it.
