I have over the last couple of years been out riding regularly with the Local Ulysses club & have heard all sorts of points of view on group riding & the different abilitys within the group & how to best regulate large group riding, to this day they STILL have regular debates at monthly club nights as to why the group always breaks up & "why can't we stay together as a group instead of racing off & having to wait for the "tail" to catch up".....The consensus being you will generally have 3 main parts in any group ride, Run leader & lead riders, robust riders in the middle & cruiser's & tailend charlie at the rear, the Run leader & lead grp will need to wait at turn off points to allow group to reform & consult with other members of the group as to how they are feeling ( need break after twisty section etc, etc) as they will have more breaks than the rest of the grp when they are waiting at turn off points for the main grp. Simple structures within the group will allow everyone to enjoy the day & as mentioned before in this thread the golden rule is "RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE" ride to your ability & the lead riders WILL be waiting for you..
Thats what we started with, going for laxed out rides that people aren't worried about racing, i am no teacher
Would recommend anyone who is unsure of themselves or nervous get specific training from someone who knows.
Was up late for migrane, home from work for the same reason so i wont be taking much today.

All very interesting and repetitive over and over again. After being in bed for almost 4 days now with the worst flu ever (3 other staff have it now), I finally get to catch up on Sundays ride. Sounds very much as I expected it would be, with the names enrolled. The only concern I would have with these kind of days is that inexperienced riders tend to push themselves too hard to keep up and sometimes with disastrous results. But obviously our group are above that!!
The thread was originally set up, not entirely as Brooke quoted previously, but in response to a thread from Munta called "Riding by myself - not much fun". the idea behind the group and its "mission statement" must always be to encourage and give confidence to all new riders. Never to judge them on there speed or lack of and to show patience and provide knowledge where needed. Some of the older riders (like myself) have done the ride fast as you can years and now (especially with pillion) like to just enjoy the day and the companionship. Thats why if Khryssie/ Tracey/ whoever wants to ride at 70-80 kph I will still stay at the back with them and enjoy the ride and hopefully the ride they are enjoying. All I expect from all members of the "Laxed out Group" is they wait where agreed, meet up regularly on each ride, follow guidelines given for each ride and respect each and every other member of the group for the mere fact that they want to ride a motorcycle.
Thats my policy advice for today. The only only suggestion that I would like to make is that if we continue to grow and I see no reason why we shouldnt them maybe we need to form a sub committee or two to make decisions on behalf of all rather than pages and pages of discussion on where we should meet and when?? maybe also decisions on entertainment, routes, etc.
Now I actually feel better and maybe a beer tonight might help. As always anyone feels like a beer after work I am more than happy to meet them at Te Rapa Tavern, just give us a bell!!!!!![]()

Life would be so much easier if you addressed questions with a simple answer.
nicely put murray
this thread is growing at a rapid rate isnt it. haha.
mister.koz was it you that was thinking of recording the routes we do for future reference??
if we did that the route chooseing after we have a few down could get quicker. (i cant wait to start re-doing some of the roads we riden)
like the kawhia one that was awesome and the next time we go when ever that is it will be even better cause i wont be riding blind![]()

F#@! i knew i was doing something wrong!! eyes open!!

I got the camera so i could record my movements and other riders and learn from it. If someone wants me to record and follow them for a bit i can
I really liked the kawhia road myself but i would suggest approaching all roads like you have never ridden them, i think quasi menitioned something about that "tractor parked on the blind corner" earlier (100s of posts ago).
All doped up on painkillers now, don't expect coherence.

So speaking of rider development, is anyone going to the training day at Taupo this weekend put on by the Hamilton Motorcycle Club? I think someone mentioned it on Sunday. Looks like really good stuff and I'm a little annoyed I didn't know about it sooner. (group of 5 people for $90 each is good).
I would certainly say they would be all booked out considering its only in 4 or so days time.
Does anyone know how often they have these training type days on the track for road riding?
There is track days at taupo for bikes quite alot. Not all of them are set up for learners or teaching but ask and you shall receive. I'm doing a suzuki day in dec ($80 for a full track is pretty dam good I thought!!) From what I've heard from mates and others there's always plenty of ppl willing to give you good advice![]()

For mine is the suffering, and the power, and the glory, two wheels for ever and ever, amen.
Track days are a great idea, i am holdin off till late jan and i will be in with a grin.
I've been bugging quiet a few people who i know that are experienced riders about all sorts of things from counter steering to gettin the knee down to quick sliding out of corners, its all very interestingbut you gotta ask.
If someone wants to be recorded on my little camera, just tell me and we can sus it out, then you have video to show someone and say "how did i do" Next trick is to get footage of me so i can do the same.
