I'm going to chuck some rough carpet down and lay the bike down on its side to figure out what parts i need to protect.

I agree it would be hell of a spectator sport too... all the action in front of you all the time.

Just updated the first post and thread title. Anyone keen for something this sunday?

I can't remember though.. what's the surface like? We need a decent surface at least...
Last time I was there the surface was in excellent condition. No loose gravel or pot holes or anything. There is a part where there's a big tree growing in its own garden in the middle of the car park - it would be excellent to include this as part of the gymkhana course.

There are of course security patrols at Unitec making sure nobody vandalises the facilities. We would need to make sure we were very well behaved and left everything in at least as good a condition as we found it in, and didn't make a nuisance of ourselves for the neighbours.

Decision made: I will be going to the Unitec carpark with my orange cones this Sunday at 10 am. My main intention will be to scope out the 'facility' but I may also indulge in some gentle riding around the cones, figures of 8 etc.

I can't imagine it being a great spectator sport. Most people want to see riders getting their knees down at breakneck speeds, not maxing out at 20k's. Would be fun thing to do for a couple hours in the morning on the weekends though.

I'm keen to come down with you and have a look.

I have managed to get hold of a set of rough 'crashing fairings' for my bike so i'm throughly looking forward to this.

Put the Bridgestone BT090's on today and they fucking rock i'm ready for this!

*note to self- it's not safe to get too cocky with new bike items*

Ok so who is keen to come have a look at the unitec car parks before the SMC ride on sunday morning?

Edit: I just remembered the perfect place... Albany RC car track... it is too twisty if you follow the exact layout but you can simplify the course and take short cuts.. it has curbs and everything... and a GREAT surface.

Yeah the Albany RC track is fine for this.

I can't make it to Unitec tomorrow after all - my bike seems to have seized!

Sorry about lack of klingon (and therefore lack of orange cones). Hope you have a good scoping expedition.

So, went to my local carpark and was testing my brakes and ended up making my own wee gymkhana course out of litter (as you do) and learned a few things:
    - Dont wear full leathers, you and your bike get HOT. QUICK!
    - Decreasing the size of your chickenstrips is fun.
    - Doing a 360 loop around a cup that moves in the wind becomes interesting.
    - Kids in green vans LOVE to watch.
    - Hornets can do stoppies even when the brakes need bleeding urgently.

My course is shown/explained in the photos and there is even a wee movie!(Coming soon to a screen near you)

excellent report mate! good to hear!

umm where on north shore is that car park- it looks MEAN.

meanwhile, today me and Andy R checked out the unitec car parks. VERY NICE surface and size... but fucking security guard kicked us out.

We must all head to that car park then, since you were not kicked out!

Btw whoever wants to go just give me a shout anytime, I'm up for it- until i get a job over the uni break that is...

    give us the movie!
