Much much better that you might look like the michellin man than be cold.
Thing with evening rides is they are often colder on the way home, also alot of people seem to overlook the fact that a big grey cloud might mean rain by the time we head home too.
I like to have those extra layers and wet weather gear either on me or in my bag for most rides so I can be all snuggly and comfortable no matter what happens.

Im suprised that my post wasnt taken the wrong way actually, as it was only aimed at a very few, so as long as its not a drag race down moorhouse and stupid passing I dont mind but the last time I rode a older fella on a Triumph and a Busa would have easly hit 100k on moorhouse and a young one on a black 250/400 kawa was so farking loose it wasnt funny. This was topped of with the lack of indercating when passing other bikes, not good at any time and specially in such a large group.
    cheers DD

No what? Keith Code (Twist of the Wrist) talks about the qyroscopic effect of the rear wheel as being the main factor that maintains the lean angle of the bike. Understanding that gives me confidence to e.g. use a hand to block sunstrike, which was what I was talking about.

I was pointing out that both wheels are gyroscopes and you cant dismiss the effect the front wheel has on the bike. In fact I would suggest the front has MORE say over the stability of the bike because you have a direct link to it.
Shoot me, but I dont quite get how understanding gyroscopic effects aids confidence in taking one hand off the bars? If the front takes a good knock the rear wheel gyroscopic effect wont alone save you...

I like the sound of this route though.

normally not that much traffic on week night around that time. its a good run also not too long and, so if people don't want to be out too late. i know the road from lytellton to wheatchief is clean, pretty sure sumner is too, but someone else might have travelled it in the weekend and know
