Wanganui is a unique track and as such i personally feel it is a smoother / taller gearing circuit. You can go out and try the point and sqirt between corners but a well set up bike will do better with a tame powerband. You can achieve that with gearing, unless you have a budget to have diff cams and carbs and all the paramaters you can adjust its a safe simple way to do it.

How many times did a Ducati 600 beat anything put up against it ?? it was smooth on the power as twins are and it was able to get out of corners way easier. I saw many laps with it against superbikes and they just couldnt get the power down due to the nature of the corners.
Hell even if im wrong it dosnt hurt to have another opinion does it. Its what was asked for by the original poster and it worked for me so its relivent.

You've been there and done it mate, so any info is appreciated. Different opinions and theory's are welcomed as different riders can pick and choose and ponder what sounds like it will work for them.

I reckon only the most highly developed bikes would have that sort grunt, at the rear wheel anyway. Your average GSXR with a pipe and power commander is about 165-ish where the tyre meets the tarmac, depending on the dyno.

Last year on the 600 we just left manfeild gearing on it, it was good....2nd everywhere plus a bit of 3rd through the cemetry. I woudn't rekon going low on the gearing on a superbike would be that nice. If you can have something that will pull 2nd most of the way, you can focus on having just the right amount of throttle to hover the front end, so your not constantly battling it as you throw it gears. It will also mean that it will be easy to pick a gear for everywhere early (probably 2nd) so you can spend the rest of your day learning the track without constantly worrying how many you have to shift up or down...KISS!

Fuck off mate! The first and last time I got on a chair (a TZ700 with Gary Wright at Manfeild), I got turfed 20ft in the air and smashed my collar bone to bits. I can (and do) hurt myself badly enough with two wheels!

Mate, I've got several strategies running around in my head and that one is definitely towards the top of the list. I'm thinking of installing a handlebar mounted plug lead switch for the ultimate in traction control.

Hard to believe it's nearly three years ago I nearly lost my foot racing there!
