Ewan McGregor selling motorbike for charity

Ewan McGregor is to donate a motorcycle to UNICEF to help raise funds.

McGregor said he will donate a motorcycle plus some of his riding kit to an upcoming EBay auction on behalf of the charity,

It is thought (but not confirmed) the bike will be his BMW R1200GS Adventure – if so, it is estimated it could fetch up to £40,000.

    McGregor’s Guzzi raises 22K

Ewan McGregor’s Moto Guzzi California Vintage has sold for £22,100 at auction. The funds – raised via internet auction on EBay – will go towards helping Unicef to aide children affected by natural disasters or wars.

The actor is an ambassador for the children’s charity.

He probably found it harder to part with a Guzzi than a Beemer.

The more I thought about this, it seemed to me that McGregor couldn't have given the "Long Way Round" BMW to sell. I seem to recall that it had already been sold in aid of Unicef - I think a private collector bought it (and I think it went for something like £80K).

I'll have to see if I can come up with something about this.

Can't find anything about the original bike, but I did come up with this, where they sold a replica (plus a Long Way Round car):
