they cut off all the good bits. bugger that. make a world road race championship there and keep it legendary.
With all that armco/concrete and no run off it just aint gonna happen that way.
It would be good to see more events there even on a modified circuit as hanging the circuit's existence off one race a year is always gonna be risky proposition no matter how iconic it is.
as with any circuit thats ever been modified they modify it and then decide its too hard to have the original circuit raced on so it goes bye bye or becomes a random road through the forrest. all the great tracks are now just shadows of what they once were - most are only a simlar name and have nothing to do with the original. the area where they are proposing the track is fundamentally very flat and the track looks like just another track. albeit a very fast track. and bathurst is a massive pain in the arse to get to.
Its amazing though that The Isle Of Man is still going...no run off, no safety fences etc( Hay Bales dont really count).
Ah remember the good ol Castrol 6 Hours.
Oh well theres always boring old Eastern Creek. P I's awseome but![]()
Exactly -- it took two decades to get Eau Rouge back at Spa how it should be. And, again, it's still missing half of the good bits. Very sad.
But yes, bikes coming down the mountain would be absolutely fantastic, but not particularly safe. Even if they shrouded the armco with that padding stuff, you'll end up with riders bounced back out into the path of bikes.
theres always guys keen. i mean they race at macau. if you think bathurst is dodgy look at macau. thats nasty and there isnt a single run off area there. so you dont get rossi or stoner. but you get guys like mcguiness and anstey and donald and farqhuer ect. ect. yee haw
spas a prime example but look at most of the so called legandary european tracks - spa, nurburgring, hockenheim, monza (or was it imola or both). the list just keeps going.
and eau rouge isn't eau rouge without the walls and the blindness and the danger. i dont ask that all track be that way but its good to have tracks where thats the case.

ok maybe i should clarify. no dodgy circuit should be part of the world champs (motogp or wsbk). im thinking more of the road racers gig and why not make a world champ there.
but more importantly could anyone possibly see either main championship leaving phillip island anytime soon. its one of the main test tracks and one of the absolute favourites of everyone. its a real bike track and there aint too many about now days.

It's pretty easy to see Phillip Island dropped off the calendar actually. It wasn't that long ago that Eastern Creek pinched it off them, and considering PI is an expensive haul for all the teams, the race happens at a time that doesn't suit the all powerful Europeans, and the riders feelings are generally ignored in favour of the few sponsors it's not exactly a stretch to see it dropped off the program. Cold hard reality.
