    Re-chroming pipes

Sorry if this has been answered anywhere else - the search function wouldn't load for me.

I'm looking at getting a Suzuki Intruder 750 that has aftermarket pipes on it, quite small straight ones (sorry not sure what they are exactly) and they have a ring of discolouration on both of the two pipes.

I'm looking at getting them re-chromed but I really don't have much idea of the best place to do this (I'm in Wellington) or of the price?

    Thanks for any help

Maybe this should be in the cruisers forum, can I get it moved?

Ah that would be the burning ring of fire Johnny Cash spoke of.........

Not many chromers are keen on bike pipes - too much crap comes out in the stripping tank. Plus if they have discoloured chances are the re-chrome will as well - usually it is related to a hot point in the muffler.

You could look at one of the ceramic coatings - they do a very nice polished alloy look, which is, well, like highly polished alloy - not far from chrome. This does not discolour.

Aftermarket pipes are probaly single walled and thin - rechromed aftermarket pipes will be thinner and discolour just as easily, if not faster.

Factory bling bling never dull pipes are usually double walled.

Valley Platers in the Hutt have started doing a few small bike jobs if you ask them nicely....
