My yammy likes the long way home too, via the shingle roads, its BECAUSE of the weight of it that its fun.
It even likes the odd blat across the grass and has been known to go bush once and survive.![]()
To be old and wise, first you must be young and stupid.

No trip south is complete without a night at the Wilderness Backpackers at Haast, then up the wet coast to Pukekura. Bit of gold digging in the rain at Ross and a night at the Blackball Hilton. Next day was up to Motueka and over Takaka Hill for some salmon out of a pond. Four fish in 5 mins!! Too easy! Too yummy....
On the way to Picton I noticed wire on docs rear tyre. We had a slow ride to the ferry but made it just in time. Was supposed to be a "Moderate" crossing but I came so close to losing my dinner.
Night at Welly downtown backpacers and off to Welly motorcycles in the morning for a new tyre. Crasher talked me into taking a Hog for a spin...there may even be a pic.
Back to reality and looking forward to the next trip.
Pic is my submission for the badge.

Way to much in the way of trees along the accessible part of the river by the camp for me (It's been 6 seasons since I'd cast a fly so I would have spent more time hooked up to the fauna on the back casts than having the fly in the water), the river is full of didymo too so wasn't keen to start wading around or help spread the delightful snot elsewhere.
Arriving there a lot later than I'd planned on the Friday I only got a quick nosey at the river before other things took overand Saturday was for
The amount of foot traffic around the camp would make any of the resident fish pretty spooky too.
Saturday night Doc & Goblin went for the gamble and attempted a bit of long-lining for eels, that got a bit of activity out of the swimming hole getting a few of the locals attention & drawing a couple of big silver bellys out of the depths later in the night and one reasonable size brown came in close to check what was happening.
On Sunday I spoke to Scott about the fishing, and the trout around the camp are pretty sparse but was informed of where a couple of good spots are and that he'd willingly take me around the area to give these places a good going over if I ventured back down there some time during the rest of the season.
The pic is of one of the larger eels heading back into the depths with some bait
You're welcome any time, was good to have finally met after a few years of conversing via here & other means. Least you & Doc survived the wombles and the dogs
