    Hi

Well Shaun has been around and would be happy to ride on them
with the "cuts" or "grooves" across the rear tyres.

Sounds like from what im reading its amost normal.

Now I know the Contis have been getting great reviews

Grip and stability were consistently good, street / track. with superb feedback under hard braking and when entering corners but this was really one of the things that was very noticable. Conti's were always predictable and never broke loose unexpectedly.

    Regards and thanks to Shaun.

I'm on the third set of Contis on my bike and I've never seen 'grooves' before.
Fantastic tyres (if you can afford the $).

    Interesting side note here.
While working for Stroudy this year on his Pirelli shod superbike we noticed exactly the same thing happening to them and they dont have tread (well not in the usual sence anyway) for it to begin from.
Tread is cut from a roll and basicly rolled around and then melted on to the casing of the tyre. In Contis they do it in one continuious strip so 1 join. On pirellis they do it in 6 sections so 6 joins. It is from these "joins" that the "problem" begins. I have never seen one chuck out a big chunk or fly apart tho so am happt to use them myself. even when they have begun to open a little they are still fine.
Good on you for bringing the issue to peoples attn but all is good.
