    Sugilite's Taupo Spectacular Racing Holiday

Hell, it's been two years since I've done one of these reports!

Got to the track on Saturday morning and got set up and the paperwork done.
Out on the track, my 1st race in two years and first time back at Taupo since 06! It sure felt good blowing those cob webs out as I'd been a neuted road rider for waaay to long

I had one more practise session and it had got a bit more serious when I realized it was also qualifying for the next days race starting position. I put it on pole with a 1.20.63 time. Just got it by 400 hundredth of a second in front of 2nd place, so it turns out that a bees dick is indeed a pole I was quite chuffed as I'd been aiming for a top 3 position.

1st race - Got a pretty crappy start as my 100k+ old, stock motor is always found out off the start line. Managed to work my way into 2nd, right on 1st places back wheel at the checkered flag. I did post the fastest time of the posties, a 1.18.20, so had lopped 2 seconds off my pole time. My mind was saying, yay, I'll have another 4 laps to catch 1st place in the next race, but my body was going, fark, another 4 laps on top!!! I wondered how the two would get on in race 2!

Well, the 750 pulled it's 2nd ever wheelie off the line, I slipped it into 2nd, but hit neutral, the front slammed down and I flattened my 'equipment' against the tank. After 5 laps, my balls descended from my stomach and decided to join the party, up till then, the finer arts of road racing had been lost on me . Got my head down for the final 3 laps and got up into 2nd (posties). So I got 2nd overall on the day. My race 1 time was the fastest lap for my class, so there is light at the end of the tunnel should I do another race meeting...I'm not out in the pasture just yet!

After prize giving I prepped my race bike transporter (looks suspiciously like my race bike see photo) and took off on the rest of my holiday to Darcy and Rhys Holmes place, before heading home on Tuesday.

I'd like to thank Scrivvy and team for running an outstanding meeting! Craig Freethy for letting me in the garage at late notice, Mr and Mrs Katman for putting (up with) me up for the night. Thanks to Goblin for her assistance at the end of raceday

Was good to see Flames progress through the Weekend, well done there!

Oh yeah, doing the paras on Sat morning was fun, like that road

Great to hear you are back out there mate. And ouch - that crushed nut sundae must have knocked the race out of ya for a while.

Are those slicks on rims or do you have do hard work to achieve that ?

    No rims, just slicks.
I did not need them as it turned out...i was worried the tyres I had on the bike would get chewed up, but no problemo

I did have a bead breaker and tyre warmers with me...

Your an inspiration Sugi, riding your bike to the meeting loaded up with spares etc, then stripping and racing it, kicking butt on the track, helping others out (thanks so much) and smiling the whole time(even with the bruises!)

Congrats on 2nd place! Sure well deserved I say

And thank you again for your support both in the pits and on the tarmac. I owe my progress over the weekend to you.

    Exxxxxxellent !!!!
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

Awesome work man, great ride. Nice to see you doing what you enjoy and good to see that the bike is still going strong and the tape is still working. Is there any video footage out there?
