Cowboyz hits beach for New Year

We didnt have much of a plan for new years and tossed plenty of ideas around about how we were going to spend the last night of 2008.
Meanie kindly offered to take the offspring for the evening and so we were off like a shot. I had to work till 4 so rushed home after work and packed up the bike, shipped the kids off and we were out of here.
Had to stack the airbed on the tank and there was plenty of discussion on a concours or a ZX14 being introduced to the family but for now we made do with the 9.
Headed off through the gorge and I was surprised to find that the airbed on the tank didnt distract me at all. I forgot it was there for the best parts as we meandered through to woodville for some fuel. Pleased to see a full refuel getting down to low $20 and carried on up to Danniverke and out to webber. The weather was mint. No wind and no traffic so made good time through to the Akitio turnoff where we stopped for a smoke and a photo shoot. The last 30km or so out to the beach is an awesome ride. Got to the beach at 7.45pm and noted that the fish and chip outlet closed at 8pm so we got in fast. Had the nicest fish burger I have ever had. It was awesome and loaded with fresh hoki fillets. Turns out Meanie, bonez, gsvr and sarahtvet are famous enough to have their pictures in the local chip shop from the 2007 coast to coast.
Setup camp which involved pumping up the airbed which under a test run took Mrs C an hour to blow up. With a bit of teamwork we got it up in 10mins and spent the evening walking round the beach and relaxing. Met a nice couple who are from Ashhurst which shows they have taste.
Heaps and heaps of people around and fireworks going off all over the place. It was nice watching the waves come in in the dark. Crawled off to find the tent about 2am. Only minor hiccup of the night was getting refused service at the boat club. Only alcohol within 60km and couldnt buy it! Didnt really bother me as we had a nice night on the E2. (orange)
The wind picked up some serious gusto overnight and I spent most of the night worrying about if the bike was going to fall over or not. Turns out the bike was fine and we packed up and headed back to Dannivegas for breakfast. The wind was fierce and the bike was setup like a spinniker so had a far ammount of work to do getting the bike to stay on the road. Wind is not your friend but we made it back ok.
Found MANS cafe so Mrs C had to sit in the corner while I sneaked food out for her. (ok thats not true) but the food was awesome. Took a pic of our breaky which we both didnt finish. Far too soft. Great meal for $13.50 though.
Did the cruisy thing back up the highway to home where we contemplated sneaking in and not letting the kids know we were home but felt a little sorry for meanie so thought we better resuce him.

    Cheers

something nice about being at the beach. Specially if lucky enough to have no wind out there.
Enjoy the summer. Be over before ya know it.

    Lucky buggers,enjoy the scenery,don't speed(or get caught).

Watch the bloody campervans around Lindis Pass area if going that way, they tend to drive in convoys and are like lemings, when one stops they all do,and usually without indicating, bloody tourists hehe.Tekapo and Twizel should be brilliant as the lakes are full, amazing colour and scenes.
