Just waiting for Sarge to tell us about his close encounter with the rear end of Cowboyz before we leaved.

Highlight of the night was getting attacked by a wasp that flew into my open helmet as we were leaving Ashurst, had to quickly find a place to pull over and get the fucker out as it was crawling on my right eye, dam thing stung me as I got the helmet of so I have a small swelling patch under my right eye. Must not like Honda.

Just back (couple of hours ago) from my Friday night ride and can confirm that the Manawatu is not the only place with melting tar problems. Some of the roads we went on were shockers.

Will blog when I get around to it but anyway: 1,073km, 11 hours 25 minutes (riding time only), awesome economy: 18.3km/l and a few roads I haven't been on. Some great riding - even in the rain from Waiouru to Taihape on the way back.

Cheers Sarge. It's ridiculous how bad some of the roads are - they should be able to make roads that don't melt on the first warm day...

Be interesting to see what Yod & Meanie have to say about the South Island roads - I know they have the same problems in some places but generally the roads down there are in much better nick than up here.

Personally I think that we must use crappy tar with a low melting point - probably easier & cheaper to use but how many accidents does it cause. It was a bit of a worry in places yesterday: we could live with the buggered tar but some of the fine metal/sand in places was hard to spot. And then it bucketted down in places and you're riding on oil...
