na man... reckon its good as it is aye.
Ya see between 82 and 84 tecknolagy leaped ahead with power valves and mono shock, high reving DOHC's etc... very hard for a old CB four or airhead stroker to keep up.
Same goes with ya 89-94, we hade 5 valve heads, alloy frames, 17" wheels etc introduced, so I reckon the next steep will be pre 97.
I personality race pre82 cos its the era of bike I grew up with, as a teen I remember these bikes new in the shop, they are a effort to ride fast... they are a mission.
*examples just that, no reserch done... but you get my drift.
cheers DD
(Definately Dodgy)
Bikes had what you say well before you remember.
CBR400rr 1988 , 17 inch front wheel , twin spar alloy frame , good brakes and a million rpm limit, mono shock.
CBR600r 1987 , 17 inch both ends , revvy engine , mono shock.
FZ 750 r 1985 , 5 valve engine , real revvy engine , etc.
GSXR 750 , 1985 , oil cooled , massive H/P , no weight, good handling etc.
The list goes on covering 2 and 4 strokes alike. But i know what you are meaning and i too have wondered when the next "post Classic "date will be determined to allow it in to the class.
The saving grace is the yearly cut off is normally raced as a seperate class even if its in a blankett race covering all the ages. Any age class is going to be a pick of whatever was fast in the day and will only be competing against like aged machines.
I think you have hit the nail on the head as to why you race the era bike you do , its like myself and many others that used to go into a hypnotic trance when we saw a bike that got out jollies going. For me it was a CB 400/4 which came out in 1974, and it took till 1981 till i could afford a second hand one. It was something i had to have and i did my first race on it in 1982 and used it as a road bike untill 1994 after covering over 350,000kms and several engines lol.
The icing on the cake is the amount of young racers coming out on older pre 89 bikes and really loving the close even racing they get. Long may it last i say.
Cheers Paul.
