Commuter shoes - proper

So I'm determined to commute as much as possible this year (no more driving around after the kids

)

but I fancy some proper footwear.

I have a pair of Gaerne sports boots for weeking hooing, but I'm after some "short" boots

Alpine Stars One-O-One are more than $200

Shift Fuel .. can't find any (any ideas ???)
Gaerne G.Ride .. Can't find any (any ideas ???)

Any other suggestions ??

I quite fancy the Shift Fuel ( webBikeWorld )
Although the Gaerne look pretty hot too.

any help? ideas etc?

I'm currently commuting in MackBoots .. but fancy proper protection
Like all footwear purchases, I'd like to try them before buying them

Get John at Boyds to order some in for you to try mate, he is a good bugger like that, personally I like the Astars but yup costly huh !

Good sturdy leather lace up work boots work quite well for me.

well, i put my foot down briefly in dress shoes on an unexpected powerstand once, doing about 80, ( i know this is not recommended ) and was very happy with the way the sole and upper dealt with it.
i think any well made leather short boot would suffice for commuting speeds and possibly give more comfort.

I've got a pair of these. Great boots. Comfy to walk around in all day although I have shoes at work so they don't wear out as fast. They're totally waterproof in winter. Just a little pricey. That said I've commuted in them every day for 2 years and they're still mint so they're worth it.

wear boots on the bike and have shoes at work...or in backpack...

The wife's got a pair of them as well. Swears by them but agree, they're up there on price. Just above ankle height so you get that ankle protection as well. She has a bung ankle so wanted something to cover it. Best of both worlds

Go to the big red shed and get some steel capped john bull slip ons. The sole won't slip on oil or wet paint on the road and they are about half the price of a cheap m/c boot
