Scracha PMCC Round 2 Manfeild report

Took my new CBR 600 hurricane (ok...it's 22 year old) out for some fun and games to accompany the mighty 400.

Practise day: Umm...big hairy arsed wobbly loose bouncy $hit load of fun. It's like having sex with a fat chick, great fun but you don't want to let on to your mates just how much you enjoyed it. Couple of super scary moments on the 600 when it's unsorted rear suspender tied itself in knots and sent things sideways but kept it rubber side down. Ohh....soooo much power.......but so little brakes. I had a shit eating grin...it felt about 50% more powerful than the 400. Heavy big beastie, about 4mm of rubber left on both sides of the tyres but once the things that were scrawing EVERYWHERE are taken off/moved then I'm sure that'll be rectified. One thing about shite old brakes is that when you go back on a bike with good brakes it gives you far more confidence....the 400 was back doing endo's by the afternoon. Gawd damn it was hot. Big thanks to Ant montgomery for letting me loose on his vfr400.....I can now see what all the fuss is about Ohlins....it felt sublime. If I ever win the lottery I'll adorn my bikes with them little yellow springed wonders. Saw flame again, not sure what she was doing in the Fast group...bwhaha...actually she was looking pretty fast out there. I stupidly got very pissed on Scrumpy at the barbeque with some moto guzzi riding pervert and his mates.

Qualifying: Umm...my usual. Didn't push too hard. 5th in post classics and 15th in F3. Clivoris was looking fast. Drunk lots of water, my hangover was thumping good style.

    Post classics race 1:
Gawd damn it was still hot. "Hmm, it's a six hundred so I'd best not launch it at 8000rpm". So I chose 6000rpm. Woops. At least I didn't loop it. Had a flippin great dice with Steve Cambell's FZR600, Cliviris' 400 and some orange 2 stroke that went as fast as it smelled (it went like stink). A jolly good 4 way ensued. Wee bit scared to open up the 600 on the exits. The 2 stroke ran out of gogo juice towards the end of the race, which was good as it was bloody fast. Finished just behind Steve Cambell with Clivoris snapping at my heels. 1.23 or summit best lap. I'll post where I finished when the results come out as I've forgotten. Headache subsiding...thankfully no breath tests on the track.

Hmm...rear tyre is cold? WTF. Tyre warmer decided to $hit itself. Fark, this is a bad day. Then just after the first F3 call, my farkin mitre-10 not so cheap ghezeebo decided to disintegrate and landed on the two bikes. I made it to the F3 race by the skin of my teeth. God damn it was really hot being stuck out in the sun.

F3 race 1: Great start....what's new (yeah I'm conceited but it's the one thing I'm good at in racing). Miscounted the gears on the downshift and ended up with a locked back end at T1. A couple of sideways snaps and I somehow stayed in the saddle. Clive was gone. Bollocks. Pulled the pin the rest of the race. Lots of rear wheel spinning and 2 BIG out of seat moments (mustuv looked good for the marshalls) but somehow brthen brought her home in one piece. The 400 felt like 125 gp bike bike compared to the 600. Back down to my PB of 1.21 and considering bike not pulling like it was I was quite pleasantly surprised. Paul inspected rear tyre and concluded "it's well and truly fucked".

Post Classic Race 2: Better start but not great. Dicing with Steve's FZR again. Swapped positions with him a half dozen times, then his back end (ooer) lit up sideways big style coming out of T1 and I think it must have spooked him as he wobbled around the left hander. I took my chance at the next corner but Clivoris took this as his chance and block passed me at the left hand hairpin. Momentum gone and I spent the rest of the race chasing him down. Laptime? I dunno.

Paul flipped at me and told me how to corner properly (square them off laddie).

F3 Race 2: Superdooper start. Superdooper first corner. Dicing with an extremely fast SV650 which turned out to be an Aprillia 1000 or summit as I'd forgotten the Pro Twins were open. Anyway, his riding was erm...loose so after passing him 4 times and getting left for dead on the straights I took Paul's advice and went up the inside just after the left hander. This must have either spooked him or pissed him off but to cut a long story short I heard grinding noises and glanced behind me to see a spinning bike and a large pack of riders right behind him. Somehow dominoes did not ensure. Came back with shoulders held well high and to be honest, it felt like the best race I'd ridden yet. Beating clivoris on my 400 was the icing on the cake as to be fair, he's been spanking my arse the last few races. Once he figures out how to go around traffic I'll be worried As per Pauls orders...sorry...advice, squaring off the corners a bit did seem to be much faster so I was surprised that I was only getting 1.23?

4 close races with lots of overtaking, next to fack all spent and a $hit eating grin....that's what F3 and posties are all about.

Thanks to t3mp0r4ry nzr for helping with the drive (even with broken fingers) since my pitbitch/chauffer decided to interface his Ducati with a Mitsubishi Truck (get well soon mate).
The dude who took my bike back to Pauls (Roadracingoldfart).
Mumbles for letting me stay at his house and use his PC to write this.
Roadracingoldfart for letting me stay at his house, fixing up the CBRs and evening driving up to the track to tell me how crap I was riding The biggest compliment I can say about his work on the hurricane's front forks is how much I didn't notice them.
PMCC, very well organised. The input from the VMCC must have rubbed off. Marshalling, timing, safety all excellent. Good stuff!
Anyone else I missed then thanks...I'm $hit with names.

Paul's going to fettle my 600 weapon to erase the ground clearance/braking/rear suspension issues so I'm really looking forward to the next race/trackday.

Honda trackday tomorrow with Aaron Slight. I'll try and not crash and actually learn something.

Racing in 2 classes on 2 bikes without a pit bitch is uber hard work.

    Photos anyone.

A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

Well what can i saay man !!!!!!
The first thing i see is you walking around looking like a mongolian woman trying to find the missing camel before the husband found you had misplaced it at the supermarket lol.
I was sitting at home and when Di said what are we doing today i was bold enough to say , we my dear are going to watch the racing , she agreed and the rest is history lol.
I will also add here that if i flipped at you id have backed it up with a smack around the ears , that was me just trying to get through to you as it was plainly evident you were doing it all wrong . If i flip out you WILL be aware of it.
In that last race you swollowed ya colonial pride , listened and acted like a proper racer doing the almost correct lines. The photo above is worth studying to see the way that yellow thing is doing it.
Apart from that , you did an amazing job on a new bike with much more power than you are used to hurling around the track. Well done.
I will get the bike sorted for you and when its all go and you have a handle on it i personally think a 1.17 lap is very much the target.

The 600 is now safely back in the garage and will get the required surgery to make it Steevie proof.
Big thanks to Ross for the transportation. Steevie owes you a

    Cheers all

Great report Steevie. It was awesome swapping back and forth with you today. If only Nicksta was there, she could have been the meat in the Oldfartteam CBR sandmwich
Look out man, when I learn to pass like you do it's all over.

Haha, great write up, sounds like ya had a gay ol' time and that's what it's all about. Posties definitely sound like the most fun/dollar on the track.

Update: Track day on Monday was really good. Never realised Aaron slight was such a shortarse. Couple of F1 guys took me out and gave me the learn. Funny as hell watching them sit up and back off to let me catch up......they were still pulling away. Main improvement was that b@stard left hand hairpin and the final corner (oh man does it take balls to leave all the braking until well into that corner). Spent most of the day practising squaring off corners, getting on the gas earlier and pissing off litre road-bikes.

Some nice English burd (Honda NZ's manager's wife or summit) gave me a shot of her brand new CBR600 so it would have been rude to refuse. Luckily nobody that knew me well was there to warn her. As payback for her generosity I christened the hero blobs. Some other nice bikes including a 400cc Bimota (DB4 ??), a very tidy exup 1000 and a minted urban tiger fireblade.

Back tyre well and truly destroyed (it's done the vic series, taupo roadrace spectacular and pmcc rd 2), it was sliding coming out of pretty much every right hander and even starting to step out going into corners but I figured it'd be good practise. Feel like I have my mojo back. I think next time I'll be at Taupo as I'm still pretty $hit at left handers

My jinx continued (rear tyrewarmer and ghezeebo died on Sunday).
Mumbles spotted that my right hand trailer tyre was basically sheared on Sunday (with all the $hit on the roads at the moment I'm not surprised).
The front champion tyrewarmer fried itself on Monday.
The oxford bike bra snapped on the way home. Luckily my $10 warehouse ratchet tie down that paranoid moi had fitted "just in case" saved the day.

It could have been a cheap weekend :-)

You told me I was shit and that you were doing 1.15's on a Hurricane before you got interrupted and had to go off and take care of Adolf Hitler?

Wondered why you didn't slap me when I asked to see your tits.

Tony.OK was looking blardy good out there and I think anyone doing F1 should now be worried :-)

Sinful, I love this pic. Pity it can't convey the grinding noises.
