    1989 GSXR1100 rear wheel swap

    Hi,
Have any of you fitted a wider than stock rear wheel on a GSXR1100K? How did this affect the handling? Was it difficult? Any unforeseen problems? Experiences both good and bad appreciated!

Yep, tried a 5.5 inch one of the 1990L model, fit fine and running wider rubber was big bonus - do it

I'm an absolute beginner. Any 5.5 inch wheel do?

I know the 1990 L model wheel fits right in. If you get a different 5.5 inch wheel, you will prob need new spacers to be machined up in order for it to fit.

    Hi Puddy,
I have put a L model 5.5 on my 89 1100K, it seems to be OK. Phil Duxbury still uses the standard wheels and is one of the quickest guys out there (1m 06 sec at puke) and smokes me. It maybe best to give racing a go before spending too much money.
I have a set of Mich Pilot Race Tyres (Med compound) 120x17" front, 160x17" rear you can have for $300. They have only had 1 meeting then I fitted the bigger wheels.
Note: the 4.5" 1100 rear wheel has a 6 bolt sprocket carrier, while the 750 has a 5 bolt. You should check out if the 750 5.5" are still only 5 bolt,as you may need to buy the sprocket carrier as well. (I hope that makes sense)

Thanks. Was wondering about the sprocket carriers.
