ok i might have been a little too quick here, it was in the omcc newsletter as the 22nd of march, but after the omcc meeting last night, there are a few things that need to be sorted.

we will know for sure in the next couple of weeks tho

but it all sounds pretty positive and it would be great to see
    Bring on the weekend

You're leaving it a bit late for confirmation! Don't be disappointed if only a handful of people turn up.

love to see this happen again but have heard that the track may not get approved by MNZ for being dangerous, which I think it would be.

yea sounds like a wait and see thing. but give me a days notice and ill race a street circuit anywhere in the SI. but yea sounds like it may not happen this year but theres alot of people working hard to sort it so if not prayers to next year.

Had a look round the circuit (my understanding is its to be the same course as the cars and be a 3 day event) and it looks quite good. proper armco's at the faster points. Theres a ridiculously tight hairpin that may be interesting but i imagine a few chicanes going in will sort it.

our entry forms for greymouth are open for 8 weeks and people still send in late entries and moan that they run out of time. thats why i was concerned with "2 months" - its not really enough time.

dont know if its the same down there, but we have to advertise the road closure months in advance to give those who are opposed to the closure time to formally object. Thats why its always touch and go from year to year. however if its on an already established circuit then they might be able to throw it all together at short notice. To be real successful it would need careful planning and good marketing, something that our greymouth event lacked until recently. The burt munroe event has fantastic marketing and they do a great job. Mind you they probably have a bigger budget eh

    Road race

    A bit of an update....

The OMCC were asked to look at running this event as it would keep the resource consent open that was used for the classisc car racing on this Oval circuit. The approach was made in November which was probably about 9-12 months too late. We have had many meetings and discussions about the proposed event but the reality is the time frame is terribly short.
At this stage we do not have a permit, circuit approval from MNZ, or any experienced officials to run it so from that side alone without looking at all the other requirements it is unlikely to go ahead. The work will start to try and extend the resource consent and if possible we will look towards possibly running a street race in early 2010.

Good stuff, we didnt run the greymouth event in 2005 and many said that because we missed a year that it would be impossible to get a resourse consent again. but it was all manageable. the big issue is the mnz permit, they have sharpened up their act a bit now days but from what ive been told it wasnt uncommon 3 or 4 years ago to apply for the permit in april and not recieve it until the week before the event in late october. I did here a rumour that it arrived on the day before the event one year. Dont quote me on that though.

    Dunedin Road Race

Sadly, it would appear the Dunedin road race is off, for this year and probably forever.

The enthusiasm of the new young guns in the OMCC has been blunted by the negativity of certain older members.

Dennis Ireland put a lot of effort into getting it off the ground, including securing major backing from the Dunedin City Council. He had the support of a good forward-thinking bunch of club members, but in the end the tunnel-visioned element appears to have won. Politics and pettiness rules.

Yesterday the track inspection was gatecrashed by a couple of antis and yet another delaying tactic was put in place.

Don't believe it when someone says 2010. There won't be any resource consent in place for the circuit, which is exactly what these people want!

What a crock of S@%t,sorry man, but where the hell did you get that from??
as for the inspection being gatecrashed? who by? certainly not Dennis I hear
Delaying tactic? Funny way of assuring it will be a safe circuit.
    Look forward to your reply
