    zxr400 rear slick advice?

Im looking at moving to slicks for my zxr400.

im using michi's at the moment but they only come in a 165 rear.

the largest i have used is a 160 on the rear

has anyone used a 165 before or know if they work?

    thanks

I'd be paying close attention to rim size and tyre size match. Then seeing if it clears chain and swing arm

I know a few years ago there were multiple rear mich slicks for 250 GP bikes that were somehwat dependent upon wheather you had a 4.5, 5.0, 5.25 rear wheel. The wrong one on the smaller rims was well tucked in with very wide chicken strips and a screwed up profile.

Even 160 PIrelli slicks on a 4.5 inch rim they are in range for provides a noticeable band that cannot be used.

It could well be a red herring going to the bigger tyre on the rim you have as the effective rubber on road may be less, not more....

Yeah I agree. I am sponsored by Cycletreads and have spoken to them about going to slicks also. They said they're all made for 5" rims now so you wont get the best out of them and are better off with treaded tyres that will give you the correct profile. I just fitted and raced on Bt090's in the weekend - Awesome!

shouldnt you be running a 150 on your rear??
165 is way too massive in my opinion....
i've run 150's, 155's and a 160 and have settled on the 150 after lots of advice and trial and error.... metzlers i believe do a slick for you.

    Hey Moto,

We run 180 slicks on our 400's. But have 5.5 inch rears fitted. Works well

    MOTOXXX,
"Bridgestone" do a Battlax 165/630R 17 YDC for your Rear. Cycletreads should have these available for you, as i get mine through Northern Accessories, part of the link.
I get a full race season out of them, and they have never given me any moments at all. Bridgestone warm up quicker than the Michi's do as well.
    Cheers.

B'stone also make the 150 for the more standard narrower rims.
You might have to get them in from Australia though as when we tried once the NZ distributor was simply not interested in helping us, so one phone call to Oz had it in the post that day.
