Can I use a pit bike for bucket bike racing?

Hi, i was jsut wondering if you can use pit bikes for bucket bike racing......im hoping to do the 2 hour at mt wellington in november and im pretty keen on using a pit bike with motard tires because their cheap and at the moment i ride a motorcross bike, so it would be a similer sytle of riding,

i was think a 140cc 4t can i use that?? or modifed xr50/ttr50

Yea I wouldn't agree with it being the same riding style because the bike is designed for dirt but the bike will be fine. I saw one the other day riding at mt wellington

Gangsta, Gansta. I'd advise buying a bigger bike instead though. They're similar cc but not quite same performance and gear boxes. I was lapping a motarded pit bike 140 in my first 30 mins on a bucket so that doesn't say much for a pit bike does it? I was on a cb140

A bigger bike would be better as I wouldn't want to sit on a pit bike for 2 hours

Aren't those pit bikes (ie Thumpstar) essentially competition bikes, so not actually eligible?

Most of them have tiny carbs.
Luckily they are a very generic type, if it has a little one put on a big one.

Well thumpstars are used in competition as much as a honda crf so I guess it is. You would want to be checking with who ever makes the rules because the thumpstars are the only ones that would put up a good fight against a big bike

A pit bike came 4th at the 2 hr in Auckland in 2007. Road tyres are a must for bucketing and ney sticking out of the leg etc... tyres can be hard to get. strangley 10" conti race tyres are or recently have been available. other sizes in the scooter tyres sizes are also available in good quality.

i didn't have a problem on a thumpster for my half hour at the wellington 1 hour race

all depends on who you are beating as to wether it is counted or not

go ask John on sunday if he is there but there are a few that race and they arn't all that slow
they dont have the topend but can go around corners

ok i will, id have to get pretty fast pit bike though......i just like to super-motard style of rding thats why.....im much more comfortable on a dirt bike style of riding.......
