Bayliss comments on fight for 09 WSBK championship

'Reigning World Superbike champion Troy Bayliss was in Rome last week for a promotional appearance. While in the land of wine, women and song the Australian was asked to size up the '09 title contenders.

Bayliss--who won the WSBK title three times--told reporters that he thinks that the two riders who will contend for the '09 title are Nori Haga and American Ben Spies.

In a controversial move, Haga replaced the retired Bayliss on the factory Ducati team when he retired.

Spies' being tipped for a possible shot at the title by a rider as respected as Bayliss is amazing--considering the American hasn't yet won a single World Superbike race, and in fact, has yet to enter a WSBK race.'

Would be good to see Haga win instead of bridesmaid.

Dead right, Deano! I reckon Haga and Slight are the two best riders to have never won the WSBK championship. Maybe this year for Nori?

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

I wouldn't discount Shakey Burn... Present BSB champ. Been fast in testing too... Already knows the Duck, since he was on one last year.
