    Advice on quitting smoking?

    Anybody dealt with quitline etc...

    Going off tv ad's...

"well done you've taken the first step" etc aint going to work for me... i don't need praise i just need to stop slowly killing myself.

I started smoking again after 3 years off in december...

5-6 a day.... until last week...

I have gone to dunhill blue from marlboro red...

The udnhill goes down alot smoother and i find myself smoking like a chimney...

i tried going back to marlboro red to fix this, but it feels painful to inhale them compared to the dunhill which i dont feel i just get the relaxation from it...

I am now upto 10-12 a day.... and im fighting myself to hold back.... i could easily put away a pack a day right now.

Anybody got any advice for quitting, or a way to cut back to 5 or less a day?

    Cheers guys: Mark.

get a job....not having a dig but the second you become bored you will start old habits. Same as when everone else goes out for a break-they will smoke, be a loner and stay away.

When I smoked and "quit", I would have the occasional smoke, make a rediculous excuse like "I don't normally smoke so it's ok", or I only smoke socially or on breaks...." it's bullshit, my mate heard me say this and said to me - "you either smoke or you don't, say whatever you like, but that's the way it is, why are you justifying it? your only selling it to yourself now fuck up"

Haven't smoked since. Sounds fucked but that's all I needed to hear.

I see that my question about why you started back up again was removed by the ever-helpful moderation team, who presumably decided that it wasn't relevant to figuring out how you could stop.

Well done, geniuses. You never fail to live up to expectations.

Anyhow, Mark, what's wrong with biffing all the durries in your possession right now and simply going cold turkey? Have you tried it?

EDIT: I felt it had a pretty damn good example of how I personally quit......perhaps my post was also moderated JR because my advice WAS useful?

Exactly what I was going to say, I use it all the time. The best cure for giving up smoking is to never start!

I dunno ive tried finishing a pack but the next time i get pissed off i crave one and go buy a pack.

All my flatmates also smoke so that also makes it hard.

Thread a horse hair through a ciggie, light it up and try and smoke it. I've heard it works.

Mark - contact quitline ... 0800 778 778 - I found them a great help .... but the thing is that you have to really decide that you are ready to quit and then make the effort ... if you haven't made that decision there is really no point as you will more than likely start again.

At least they can offer you some good advice and support when quitting ...

Was it in reply to mine? If so, it probably got dragged into PD along with it. Fucking useless moderators (actually, there's really only one who seems to do a bad job of it).

I've seen people stop smoking 'just like that'. They decide they don't want to smoke and boomf, they're not smoking any more.

And I've seen people whinge and moan and keep smoking even though they bleat about wanting to give up. Doesn't ring true to me. If you want to smoke tobacco, just fuckin' smoke it and shut up about it.

It's all in the head. Some people just kinda suck, and that's all there is to it. Smoke if you want to, don't smoke if you don't. It's not that fucking complicated.

*braces self for the inevitable pathetic whinging bleats of the addicts*
