I don't know if I am in the position to say but, Don't let one guy who you've never met or spoke to ruin your "Half-year planned" holiday. It is just not fair. If he doesn't care about you, then he could be "selfish".

You are a professional. You do know how to say "No", yes?

If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.

Then he emails and says he isn't happy with the cost of rental bikes - and he is going to use a car.
    Just like a Pom!

The holiday hasn't even started and he's already whingeing about the prices.
The greatest pleasure of my recent life has been speed on the road. . . . I lose detail at even moderate speed but gain comprehension. . . . I could write for hours on the lustfulness of moving swiftly.

Popped down to the chemist - they were all sold out.

I would tell him to fuck off - but I don't have his contact details, never spoken to him, never emailed him. Dont particularly think I'll like him.

Have spoken to my mate - he knows where its at.

Thought of that - but guys booked on same ferry - and I believe the same accomodation for very night. So hes going to be following all the time anyways.

Im going with ignorant as opposed to think or selfish. Guys worth a lot of $$$ (or GBP as the case maybe) and I think he is used to getting his own way.

I was meeting up with Jantar and Mikkel when down there - so yeah - I might just look at changing my dates and doing it solo (hell might just take a tent) - disapointing - having a mate on the trip was a real bonus - but hey - you roll with the punches.

anyway - seen HR and cancelled my leave. Feeling pissed like you wont believe.

All the more reason to tell him to take a long walk off a short pier. Rain on HIS parade. And smile whilst you are doing it!!
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I'm guessing he's not married then..

You've got a V-strom, so i'm guessing part of the journey is off-road?

Let him follow until he finds that he cant get through the offroad section in the MX5, then let him sort himself out.

This guy sounds like a real ass-biscuit, I dunno if i'd want to go on a trip with someone i'd be resnting the whole way, 'cause you know you will be, and waiting for the right time to tell him he's fucked your holiday for you....to get an indignant response....i'd go on my own I think.....and i'd be pissed at my mate too......after all he knows what's happening, all he has to say is- sorry dude, it's a bike trip, take it or leave it we've been planning for months....you bring a bike and yourself or forget it.

The above words explain the thread title very well, what an unfortunate set of circumstances. Theres not alot you can do really is there Tank? Unless you go it alone? and thats not what its all about either is it?
Breath deep and think on a positive note about the pending trip.
All very well for people to say do this or do that, point is, you are stuck with it, best you and your mate get on with it and enjoy it, dont let the english gentleman tarnish your bike trip.

That was the deciding point for me - I didnt want to spend an evening having a few beers with a bloke that (as far as I'm concerned) is a bit of a selfish cock. When you are chillin with mates at the end of the day - you have to enjoy their company and respect them. So its more than the journey - its the dynamics at the end of the day also.

I feel for him - he's in the middle - I believe he said something along those lines but the guy went and booked a car and flights anyway.

Whats going to be fun is I think he arrives in NZ next Wednesday (we were supposed to leave Friday) - and he will be staying at my mates who (wait for it) lives next door to me. Thats going to be a fun couple of days.

    Easy enough surely.

Off we go. First open road, give it gauntlet, and don't let up. Once you're a decent few miles ahead , switch routes. Stop at a different place overnight. Call him up. Where are you, you need to keep up. Yeah, we diverted onto X road, whole point of a trip like this. And now we're at Yville we're staying the night here instead of Dumpsville as originally palnned, much better here. Well that's the whole point of a bike trip, to be free and call the shots as the dice roll. You need to keep up, drive faster . You going to come over? Well yeah, it is 100km, that's why you need to keep up. Ok, well, we're planning on pressing on to Z tomorrow, we'll catch up with you there, and please try to keep up.

End of day 3 you'll be rid of him for good. With any luck he might crash.

I'm assuming he isn't a shit hot driver who 8can* keep up. But in that case it's not so bad anyway.

Just re-read the thread, - and I do sound like a whiney bitch.

So - thought I'd make a decision. Emailed the boss (he's in the US) - told him the trip was off and that I would be around to do 'stuff'. (I had emailed HR previously - but that can be undone).

Called mate - told him I wasnt going - no hard feelings, not his fault. But dont bring the pommie to my house for a beer when he's over next week - he's not welcome.

There. Decision made. Case closed. All good.

Pity. Cos to me, it's not all good. You spent 6? months planning and looking forward to this and one prat (read...ONE PRAT) who wouldn't be told no stops you from enjoying the fruits of your endeavours.
I agree that he wouldn't be fun to have around, so the trip could be 'difficult'. But a simple "Fuck off, knobend, you are not welcome" should have sufficed. I also appreciate that your mate is caught sort of in the middle. Hard for him to tell a 'mate' to piss off. But seriously, what sort of mate can this pommie git be, acting like that?
