    Race report + Cam

    Here is my Paeroa story

After doing Wanganui and realising the intensity of street racing I certainly ensured absolutely everything was set up and ready to go for Paeroa, I did a couple of trackdays to get the gearing right as well as installing a Titanium Akropovic (2nd hand) I had it dynoed to 50.2 hp (up 5) had the valves checked the lot, prep was absolute (for my level)

I left Hamilton on ther saturday to get a good spot, I ended up against a building which was primo as it was raining and a bit windy so I got some good shelter there, Saturday was spent talking and having a few beers with the crews that where there, we all prayed for good weather for Sunday and it seemed to be that it wasnt to be, the morning greeted us with drizzle and what appeared to be set in rain. however after about a two hour delay for practice the sun proved the superior force and we enjoyed excellent conditions for the day (very humid though sheeesh)

    Practice one

Went out to find my way around try and get a few markers soughted and lines in my head tried a few different things, I think it was about lap 3 when I came into the Hairpin at a fair speed when I just completely lost the front not sure what happened but I hit the deck bloody hard and ended up going down on my dodgy shoulder I felt it pop and knew I had popped my AC Joint.........again!!
I sopke to a couple of KB boys who said I skidded on the manhole cover so maybe that was it...who knows.
Anyway I got the bike back up and kicked it into life and finished my practice session.

The bike seemed all good so I didnt do any changes, a bit of gas and nursed the shoulder a bit waiting for race one.

    Race one

I was a fair bit back in the feild and ended up well down the feild as well lol, but I did a best time of 56.16 secs
seemed to be a bit of Carnage around the track but all in all a good fun race.

    Race two

What a disaster, here I am with no grid position (they forgot to put it on so I just went to where I was) feeling kinda sore the flag dropped immdeiately infront of me three n=bikes seemed to be banging into each other they all stayed upright tho and the race was on, I got a reasonable start and was hell bent on saving some face and getting a better time, well bugger me lap one here I go blasting into the bloody hairpin again, I had two bikes on the outside and I elected to poke my nose into the inside, I was carrying a fair bit of speed but (still not sure) someone was behind me and I felt er this aint right Im not stopping next thing I go into the back of a bike (he keeps going) but I highside over with another bike following me, dunno what happened, Im unsure if I got hit in the rear or I just fucked up but anyway I got up (apparently with lightning speed) and got back into it, I hit turn two and here is Alf and Willy in the middle of the track, as it turned out Alf busted his shoulder quite badly (so I got nothing to grizzle about!!) the race was red flagged and we had a restart, the rest is kinda dull as I (to be honest) was a bit head fucked and I decided to just survive the day.

All in all great fun and I have now done Paeroa and Wangas which where my two challenges I set myself, having doen them Im not 100% sure I like street racing, love the atmosphere but I wonder about the safety risk, especially at my old age !! will I do it again? who knows see what happens, for now I think I need to spend more time on the bike and enjoy some more circuit racing.

Video of Race two as below, enjoy

Faarking outstanding bro. My girl and I were hooting for ya in the hairpin. Great to see the video footage too. Just shown my wife what I want to do next year. Mixed is the best description of the response I got. I'm keen to give it a go but keep considering the risk/benefit equation.

lol... I know what you mean about the risk benefit equation. Have you considered sidecars.

My wife was all keen for me to have a go at the pre 82 or 89's because the bikes cost next to nothing. My mistake was letting her see the bikes go down. She's lost her enthusiasm for the idea. Oh well, give it a few days and she'll be fine. That or I'll be looking for a sidecar. Actually the sidecars look like they'd have their moments of excitement as well.

    Thanks for the post Quasi.

That was a well fimed (and edited) video, Bret!
The camera position on top of the helmet gives a very good view of what's going on.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

That vid is nuts man. Love it. Keep it up, you're definitely one of the characters who make the racing scene feel like home.

    Cool vid, Quasi!
I don't see the road going by that quick when I ride
With an arse as cute as yours, why do you keep putting it on the ground?

yeah thats the thing I hardly ever crash, dunno but that corner had me fucked, I think I need to assess the set up/tyres and more importantly the rider.........Im not 100% sure but as there was 3 bikes in the crash, one (the one I hit) kept going so dunno if I was pushed (seemed like I couldnt turn or brake at that last moment) or if it was just my fuck up, Im going to take it like a man and say I fucked up and I was to hot into that corner and I SHOULD KNOW BETTER.

I dont think my balls are big enough for the streets frankly, will see how I go through the year.
