Yeah; from that era, my favourite-ever newspaper headline, from the Bay of Plenty Times: Hiscock Stands Out in Baypark Racing.
I've still got my skeleton suit...althought it seems to have shrunk a bit. What's with that?
Bloddy funny to see my bosses from way back then in the vid too I must say.
I remember watching the Boxing Day race (early 80's? perhaps 83'?) an Dave went through the bendy bits on the rear wheel. TV guy calling the race almost wet his pants im sure of it....he figured ''Hiscock must beleive thats the quickest way through that part of the track''...![]()
One of Enduring memories as an impressionable lad watching the first bike racing I'd seen at Wanganui & Hiscock on the plastic racing Philis (or whoever). Instant hero. Cemented a link in the chain of 'must buy one of these motorcycle things as soon as I can'.
I met him at a friend's wedding a couple of years back in Auss. They say you shouldn't meet your heroes, but was a thoroughly nice guy & humble with it.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.
I saw a few words someone had said about him the other day....
''Quiet guy, brilliant rider''.
I understand his brother Neville was no slouch on a bike also.
Last year I was told he held/holds? the record from bridge to bridge over the Takas...Welly folk will know what that means.
