Off the Rails, Middlemarch V Sundown Rally, Greta Valley 4 April.

Well what do you do? Two excellent rallys on the same weekend!! I used to do both as they were on different weekends...that is until last year
2008 I ended up going to the Sundown Rally at Greta Valley, so I guess it's turn about this year and it will be Off the Rails at Middlemarch
They are both good, both quite sort of different, either one is a great choice!!

As you say both good,Middlemarch is a bit close to home for me (no ride)The times ive been to the Greta do ive headed up and over to the coast headed back over the other pass and stayed in Reefton the Friday night then on to Greta saturday morning, great trip.Wont be much of a ride this weekend as i can get to the site in 20 minutes.Least its not far home with a hangover.

Never done the great, but the off the rails is cool... nice spot... this year considering Friday night at the Sundown, and Sat night at the OTR. Just for the whore of it!

How can Middlemarch be to close to home FFS go for a ride man... go exploring roads you haven't done in a while... I can have a rally on my own backyard (if I had one) and still have a days ride to get there... to close to home my arse... every where in NZ is to close to home... I get sick of hearing that...

Go north on the back roads (and there are some nice ones in those rolling hills out the back in your area there as Oldrider showed me last year) head to Omarama... do the Lindus, Cromwell, Alexandra, Ranfurly, then either turn off at Kyeburn or Macraes Flat to Middlemarch.

The views expressed above may not match yours - But that's the reason my Dad went to war - wasn't it?
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, .... but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out,... shouting "man, what a ride"!!!

Err yea,i have many times over the years. All i said was i would rather go to the Greta Rally than Middlemarch because Middlemarch was dare i say it "close to home" and going to the Greta via the coast was a better option but its nice to know you care.

The ride is half the fun, the other half is being there and doing it all with your mates!!
I have only been North to 1 rally (Nelson) this season (heaps of times down South) and I had such a great time at Greta last year, plus the Plains M/c club are an excellent bunch, there is a Tavern/restaurant on site, proper toilets, showers, gas station, hmmmm maybe change my mind and go back!!
Plus did I tell ya say that I won BEST BIKE and got lotsa prizes!!
You can do Fri & Sat nights there too if you wish!!

Off the Rails Rally is a km or so from the pub - but there IS a pub, gas-station, shop etc at Middlemarch.

And better yet - I'll be there!!
