OK haven't forgotten 2 wheel road racing I'll dig you out some old pics too

On some other threads I mentioned that sadly my Bro' passed away in January after a 9 month battle with cancer and now I'm having to tidy up and clear out his stuff and of course amongst it all are his photos.

These will be a bit in a random order, but the first I'm onto are from the Marlboro Series at Wanganui in Dec 1976.

First pic is Croz on the Z1000 followed by John Woodley on the RG500, second pic Stu Avant TZ750, third pic Jeff Sayle RG500, fourth pic Warren Willing TZ750, fifth pic Woodley in front of Croz (it took a few laps for the GP bikes to run down the big 4 stroke), sixth pic Martin Bayliss Honda 125.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Yep , Vaughan Coburn it was, and Barry Wylie, was he Dale's brother ? Thanks for putting them up Merv, when you look at the crowds in some of those shots, it was very popular. Gaz.

ps I wonder what the gate takings were at Streets meetings of the 70's ?

Yep Barry was Dale's brother, I'm bound to find some pics of Dale but earlier on because I last remember him at the '74 Marlboro races at Wanganui. Problem then was me and my Bro' never had such flash cameras, basically instamatics while only the pros had the good cameras.

Crowds were great and there were generally no fences except at the corners to keep people back from the track, made the whole atmosphere so different.

I haven't looked at them yet but Bro' had a box of the Gracefield photos from the same year so I'll see if I've got time to check them out at home tonight.

There will be many others too I am sure.

OK I told you we didn't have such good cameras way back, well here's the Onekawa Grand Prix pics from October 1972 taken on the old Instamatic. No moving shots - just as well.

Pic #1 some cool spectators that rode T90 Wolfs and CB and SL 100s and stuff like that and dig the Ace bars on the CB100. #2 Alan Collisons CZ400. #3 mmm wrecked CB750. #4 Ginger Molloy & Dick Waterer, #5 Geoff Perry's bike (no sign of Geoff), Trevor Discombe, Dale Wylie, Ginger Molloy, Dick Waterer. #6 Peter Ploen's Bighorn

Here's one for Koba, the scene is Gracefield Grand Prix 1973 and the bike of course is an A100. Back in those times Tony Burrell (RIP) from Napier managed to become the NZ 125 champion on his warmed over A100 - quite an achievement I thought at the time.

Yeah was great and I could never understand why its not still on because that area still isn't one that would worry about the streets being closed in the weekends.

I have a blurry memory of discussing this with Nige of PMCC at the Manfield Nats. I think he said something about there being a number of businesses that operate out of there during the weekends now. If it wasn't that, there was another equally good sounding reason.

    Very cool Merv.

No, poor Tony of race fame drowned at sea in the Bay if I remember rightly a few years after the pic was taken so that was probably late 70's maybe early 80's just can't remember exactly.
