First of all it was a relief to get out of Welly on Saturday and head away for the weekend.
Arrived in Taupo about 2pm, man the afternoon sun was awesome, went down to the lake and promptly fell asleep on the grass under the shade of a tree.
Eventually got up to Miros Motel with a feed and some beers and turned in for the night.
Grabbed all my stuff in big handfuls and made my way down the Motel stair case on Sunday morning only to drop a whole 6pack of Montieths on the tile landing.... beer everywhere at 7am.... with Bill (nice guy) the owner just happening by at the same time (u should seen the look on his face).
Luckly it was only one bottle smashed i picked up the glass and left him the rest to clean up hahaaa.
Arrived at the track 7.30am and said a little prayer of thanks for the clear sky got setup signed in and prepped for the day, glad to see no Honda riders even bothered to ask for a spot in garage 17 but Ken KS34 did join me with his Gixer.
I must say i felt a little self conscience at the riders briefing as i was glowing white in my new Berik leathers and Alpinestar boots hehe and it was quite funny to see that while we were sposed to follow the track mentors for the first 2 sessions most people in the race group just overtook them after a couple of laps and started doing their own thing.
The emulsion round the edge of the repairs was a bit of a worry in the morning with the corner entering into the start/finish straight being particularly nasty.
The day was fantastic and big ups goes to Sparky Bills for crawling on bloodied knees to get me a late place in the fast group, HRC for making room when they had none, the mentors all of them for being approachable and friendly Ken KS34 for giving me the learn (mate they wont let you in clubmans u riding like a demon).
BTW did any u guys meet Sandra the Slovarkian girl on the CBR1000 shes gunna be one to watch ive never ridden behind a girl that had as much aggression and killer instinct and shes only done 10 track days she was carving up alot of the other riders lane splitting and outside overtakes! i have some footage of me trailing her for about 4 laps which i will post soon.
What did i take away from the weekend?... confidence for PMCC round 3 which i have decided will be my last clubmans race, ive gone from crashing out every 50 laps to no crashs in over 250 laps but my times are getting faster (touch wood), theres no shame in coming last as long as your not going backwards aye..i love this thing we do![]()
