Sounds a little dodgy but i wouldnt worry about it too much mate, id just be on alert more, make sure your close to your garage so that you do hear if anything moves or what ever, and can you also move your bike to the back of the store? or somewhere closer to you and out the way of the general public?
Luckily i dont have to worry about my car or ( future bike ) getting stolen lol. cause my doberman usually sleeps in the garage

I once had an artist come up to me and ask to take photos of my bike for an art expo he was doing on shape and color, took no photos of my mates Hyo parked right next to it.

Good for a laugh (all my mates have Hyo's), please take no offense Hyo riders.

And for the record, unless you have a gate, which is at all times closed, for the purpose of the law, a "public road" is anywhere the public has physical access to, WHETHER BY RIGHT OR NOT, and that includes your driveway. hence why you can get done for doing burnouts on your driveway.

Even a "public road" of this sort is still considered "private property" for the purposes of determining whether you're allowed to take photos from where you're standing.

I've taken a photo of some dudes bike while he was there ( I didn't realise he owned the bike while I was taking it). I just wanted to find out what it was later on. Didn't take any pics of the number plate though.....

Wow... caffeine must be in short supply. I don't have problems with someone taking a picture. WTF. I'd go up and have a chat. The times I've done this I've found it's no big deal.

1/ He could have had an issue with the rider's riding style and having a camera on hand it's easy to take down details.

2/ Did he actually go up and take a photo of just the plate or was he more taking a photo of the rear because he liked the look. You could well have a person who liked the bikes and likes bikes.

3/ he may have had a bike stolen and was taking pictures to go back and check to see if it's his with a new number plate, or already knows it is and wants the photo proof for the cops.

It seems to me you assume the best, go up and have a chat like he's another biker or prospective biker. If he has a valid reason then all good and if not then...

To go up and thump someone because they took a picture of your bike seems OTT, and just gives everyone a bad look.

(although I'm guessing those posting they'd takle the guy on is more "forum testosterone" than real life)

Come on, this isn't Gone in 60 seconds.
If someone had wanted to steal it, it would have been gone and noone would have suspected a thing.

If they wanted the plate number there are less obvious ways of recording it, for fucks sake they are only 5 characters long, and why would you take two pictures? the plate details will give you the colour and make plus warrant and rego details.

Maybe the person liked something about the bike, maybe he is planning on buying one??

Id be getting extra security for your bike quick smart biddy, I cannot think of a single legitimate reason for him to take ANY photos of it, let alone the plate. If he had a complaint to make, he would have rung *555

Soooo, your bike is parked outside a shop, somebody takes a couple of pics of it and you make the quantum leap that he's a bike thief and give hime the bash???

Geeze, if I was the ex-owner of the bike taking a pic of my old bike for old times sake I'd be most surprised at the present owners o.t.t. reaction...

You need to live in better areas....

    This isn't on private property

Not quite.... If there is a definable boundary, whether fences are up or not, makes it an enclosed yard.

Where did ya learn one can get done for doing burnouts on ones driveway? This is breaking news.....

Public road is a public road.

Depending what the photos are of. Taking snaps of the Mrs getting naked at 11pm at night is a no no. Taking photos of a vehicle or a building from a public place is fine.

"Forum testosterone" Good call. Keyboard heros. (Mostly.... but be afraid if it is Sarge....)

Go and talk to em and find out what its all about. Don't need to let on that you're the owner, (just in case you did feck up somewhere... ) just say it's a mates.

Losing ya rag like Tigertim suggests will only earn you a visit , and a one way trip to the cop shop, wearing a set of the latest fashion accessory...
