"Drink drivers getting away with bloody murder"

Following on from last weeks discussion/poll...

I know how you guys feel about the Herald...

But here's an article from a local guy who lost his wife to a drunk driver.http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/ar...0565357&pnum=0

We havent met...but one of his wife's friend is friends with my husband's family. We were at our mutual friends home when the news came in that morning, of his of wife's death. I remember the goosebumps well.

    Small world...

From a personal aspect I think the article is Very well written. I think the writer has alot of very very valid points in the article. But the nana state gubberment will never listen or change any thing.

    Everyone should ride bikes.
Pissed motorcyclists crash rather more quickly.

Why have these folks suddenly become "drink" drivers and not "drunk" drivers?

It's nuts that there is all this focus around crushing boy-racers cars when we are so leniant on drink drivers who are the real killers on our roads, we even have no problems electing them to parliament aka Tamihere with some five or so convictions for the offence.

The fact we have specialist drink drive lawyers who make a killing from getting potential killers off scott free on the basis of the most ridiculous, irrelevant technicality should be a worry, coupled with the fact we have Police who can arrest someone for stealing a 10 cent lolly but not for driving while drunk. It's still a socially acceptable crime, despite the fatal consequences hence why no Politician really gives a crap about it.

I'm sure that the reason why there are so many holes in the pissed driver legislation is some how connected to the fact that so many politicians over the years have been bloody old Gin soaks themselves.

It has been that way for some time now. The reason is that drunk drivers usually dont consider themselves to be drunk, merely as "having had a drink"
