He was polishing his bike with some kind of solvent and left the wadded-up rag sitting on the seat. It spontaneously combusted.

Drum brake on the rear? Seized partly on and got red hot?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Mouse chewed and shorted a powered wire?

C'mon...we need a clue. Was the bike being used in some form at the time?

He left the bike parked in a sunny spot. The sun reflected off the mirror and focused on the seat, setting fire to it.

It was being stored in a shed with an old beer fridge. Being a Yamaha, the fuel tank had rusted the seams and was starting to seep fuel. At the same time a mouse was nibbling away on the delicious, old rubberised power cord when the inevitable happened! Mouse conductive, solvent ignition!

Ive already given a clue in a answer.

    No mice.

But here is another clue - had it worked - a lot of people would have been very upset.

Has it got something to do with the bike being filmed or photographed at the time. Oh, it was being stored with a heap of old celluloid which caught fire!?????
