Unlikely to be a chain I would have thought. If you have the engine number, Repco can confirm for ya.

a good. I got fooled there then, the car just done 107000km and there's no sticker under the hood to confirm if the belts been changed or if it is chain.

The sales man said it is chain but i have my doubt's now. If it is belt i will go back with the car and say hey, you cant sell me a car that need to have a cam belt replaced the first thing i need to do.

    Bloody car dealers! (Sorry Frosty).

I bought a used car from a dealer last year. When I asked about the timing belt I was told that the car has a chain & not a belt. When I got it home I looked through the service record & found a receipt for the timing belt replacement some 30,000k prior.

Must be a standard reply, like "one careful lady owner".

Can usually tell by looking at the front of the engine, if there is a plastic cover from the head to the sump that is relatively easy to pull off, it's most likely belt driven.

Don't do it, don't buy a cage! BTW tell the dealer He's taking the piss or talking shit cause its a belt driven motor. Mazda B6-2E, 64kW 1.6L Carb if its New Zealand New or Mazda BPT 26 if its an import.
