I'm noticing a trend here, all of the people not having issues have'nt got a written of vehicle, just one which needs fixing......
I'm going to presume, that the fact it's getting written off is the secrect ingredient needed for them to become kentucky fried cunts.

Teach its owner to fix it and it'll break in some way you've never seen before.
Old for new is what you are looking for...be careful that the policy clearly states this and not "present day" or "indemnity" value as is the case with alot of insurers, especially when it comes to your helmet and your gear. I have access to full replacement helmet and gear cover if anyone is interested.
This is also a good example as to why you should deal with a broker as opposed to the insurer direct. As a broker it is our job to look after the client which we do with our superior policy knowledge (we get paid to study the policies and make sure your bike is covered under the best one for your circumstance, so we know most of the policies out there), and our claims handling service...which I think is the most important aspect of a policy - after all is this not why you buy insurance? So that you get a hassle free, efficient service in getting you back up and running.
I hope all goes well firefighter - let us know how you get on!
Best of luck dude and I hope it all works out ok in the end!
When you fill out the customer service card at the close of claim, you hopefully won't get a threat letter like I did. Oh and that letter found its way around to AMI's competition to looks of.
AMI were cheap for sure, but I would rather pay the extra $500 its cost me to not get treated like a criminal.
Nunquam Non Paratus
EdBear is right. How many of you look at your policy wording word for word and understand what it means? Did you find anything ambiguous and ring up to clarify? Unless you are in the insurance business, using a broker is a very good idea to have the policy at least explained to you.
Sounds like Nadia was having a bad day. We can all be assholes at times. Doesn't mean AMI the company isn't any good (and I work for a competitor!)

However, when my bike insurance came up for renewal, it was so expensive and unfriendly that I switched to kiwibike. Saved me some money, and I got much more favourable conditions, like $2500 gear cover, lower excess, trackday cover (for approved trackdays). They also didn't care about a couple of tickets I had.

Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()
Our house insurance with AMI. But.. when some little eejit knocked me off one of Coleman's loan bikes, AMI coughed up for all my gear, including a brand new ($1300) helmet. They took the eejit to court, and gave me my $250 excess back.
Dealt with a very, very helpful little asian girl at the office in the CBD.
Paid out within about three days of me getting them quotes for replacement gear. Can't really moan at that.
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.
Didn't know AMI did the gear too.
I put in my claim form after some drop kick went into the back of me (who didn't have insurance), didn't have to pay the excess. Been ok so far

Been with AMI since forever (25 years?) Had all sorts of claims from broken windows to a ruptured hot water cylinder, from broken glasses to a cell phone that went through the washing machine ... and a $1200 claim from when some bozo knocked my bike over when it was parked. Never had anything but great service and claims settled quicker than I could have hoped to expect.
Grow older but never grow up
-1 for AMI.
They're the ACC of car insurance. If it's a clear cut case you'll be grand. But any opportunity to screw you they'll try.
My experience too dealing with them on a simple, no argument claim.
That was until I received my renewal notice to find my premium up and my excess increased. A small claim, even holding a no claim history for years turned our premiums and excess into a joke. We had a few years without full insurance (3rd party only) after that claim. AMI get thumbs down from me. Seduce you to change your business to them by offering cheap as premiums, then shit on you after you make a claim.
