I had a nice man turn in front of my ute and write iy off for me. AMI had the claim settled in three days. Very efficient and polite.

Would monday really have been too long to wait for a figure?? Are you really sure you are not just being a little impatient?? Some things take time.

Did the policy have a $250 excess anyway? If so, then thats unusual for them to just give you free money. If the policy was no-excess then they should be charging you that to begin with.

we had some ducks take up residence in the back yard after Mrs Headbanger fed them, each day they were hanging closer and closer to the back door....Untill after about a week I found the bastards in teh house eating the cat food, So I (fearlessly) gave them the fright of their lives, at which time they scattered teh cat food all over the room as they took flight, smashing crap off the shelves and craping all over the walls, the washing, and the floor.

    Was a glorious mess.

Common misconception. It was changed to duct tape for this very reason - animal rights activists were outraged and staged many violent protests. Duct tape was lucky, Hamster Tape TM was withdrawn completely (but still available through underground supply channels).

All insurers can and will be c*nts if you start off telling them how to do their job. Same goes with Police, Parking Wardens, even Firemen.

Swear at me while I am assessing your claim and I can assure you that I won't have any real good reason to prioritise your matters. Your vocab may impress some down the local pub but it wouldn't thrill a claims officer sitting in her office.

As far as the excess goes .. you will get a renewal notice at least annually. It's YOUR responsibility to insure that they have things right and if your circumstances change you HAVE to tell them. Maybe look at what your wife is insuring you for? Bank officers are not insurance specialists I'm sure she's a top girl but it's your bike.

If I was in your position I would realise that the AMI chick's hands were tied till she got the valuation. I'd follow up the valuer myself and give AMI the info they need to process things.

Finally, as mentioned elsewhere, you'd probably get a better deal and maybe even understanding/empathy from an insurer that does bikes more than just a sideline product line from a supermarket insurer like AMI.

I've been with AMI since before they were AMI and I must say I've been considering changing. We got robbed last year, and dealing with AMi was worse than the robbery. They felt it was their right to probe into every personal financial detail of my life. They wanted to see bank statements etc before they approved the payment.

And they used to be top knotch. I wouldn't reccomend them any more.
