BMWs - for old men?

Having raced a semi wild Hayabusa sidecar for a while with well over 200 Hp, then getting onto Sidecar Bobs BMW post classic sidecar with 85 Hp, I know straight away which sidecar gives me the biggest thrill!!
They are both bitches to steer, both go sideways with ease, both make us sweat, and both bring a smile to my dial.

But it is the BMW rig that raises the fun stakes every time!!

oh, yeah, and the sound of the twin.................... Fwwwwwwwwwrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! !!!

Don't get me wrong the 800 is a great bike to tour and is fun to ride.....but all things being equal your average 600 will quickly leave it behind-it is not fast!

the 800 may not be ultimately any where near as quick,or fast.
But in a real world situation on a windy road,with rain and some luggage i think the f800 would be just what the doctor ordered for any sane person with an ego to suit
Was the same with my K100RS..nowhere near as quick as a Jap 1000 or even 750.....but throw in some long days,rain and luggage and at the end of the day the beemer was ready for more......and the rider

The K1200S/R/GT series have been replaced with 1300s and 147 rwh, and they've spruced up the Duolever front end so it has a more fluid action.

One reason older guys like BMWs was (and is?) that they are the most comfortable bikes around. If you want to cross continents, or even ride the length of this little country, there's few to equal them and none better.

I used to like my K100RS, and I wouldn't mind another Beemer, but they seem to get bigger and bigger and are just so bloody ugly...

My GS's seat was designed by hitlers cheif torturer..... Rules out the comfort argument. (apart from the seat it's not bad. I got rider seats to alter mine and it's still uncomfortable for anything over 500kms in a day.

The 100GS was the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden.500+ ks in a day 2 up with gear was never a problem.
Definitely an old blokes bike though so I'm glad that I fit that demographic.

Yeah, I *knew* that, but when I was trying to think what the latest/greatest new BMW was, I couldn't remember the model.

I would have a K1200s in a heartbeat!
You can pick up a K5 with luggage for $20K.

But I guess being in my late (ish) 40's carver would think I am old....

My husband has two - an old R100RS (that has done close to 20 Grand Challenges) and an R1100RT which he picked up cheaply last year. He loves them both but would also be very happy with one of the 800s.

I used to have an F650CS and I'm pretty sure I'm not an old man! True, older men are more likely to be able to afford them, but you don't have to be old to ride one! Or a man for that matter!
