Jesus, they're hardly "subtle" with that flash setup on the back.

I still say that the old Police Hiace/L300's would have been the easiest vans to disguise, ever.

Couple of ladders and long plastic tubes on a roofrack, and suddenly they'd have had instant plumber/electrician vans.

Dude, they're archiving a years worth of everyone's internet history in some places 'round there.
Seems 'police state' isn't funny anymore.
Some people just can't seem to comprehend that they do not have the right to be unoffended in their lives.

One wonders how long before some Einstein suggests recording their regos and posting those...

That, and the L300s had you slowing down for all the tradies' vans.

The L300 is common - a brand new Previa is a relatively rare sight.

Wonder what they cost - it's be a bloody expensive accident if they backed into something!
$2,000 cash if you find a buyer for my house, kumeuhouseforsale@straightshooters.co.nz for details

    A disgustingly large amount, actually.

"Car buyers can purchase a Previa from Toyota dealerships for $62,500 - an estimated total of $750,000 for the dozen the police purchased."

    I wonder what
... the L300 "no longer meets the operational requirements for a camera vehicle"
    actually means?
    They're too recognisable?
They're not comfy for the operators to sit in for long periods of time?

I don't think it will be long before you can get tuned into noticing them parked up in the usual "accident blackspots".
I guess that even if they are significantly dearer than the L300's they replace, they'll have a good return on investment till people start to notice them, and even thereafter.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Personally I am wary of ANY vehicle parked up like that...

Apologies for taking this off topic... but has anyone else noticed that the northern motorway has been a hotspot for marked police cars over the last few weeks??? FARK I had a close call in the car and then last Sunday night I was pulled up on the bike.

It was dark, I was on my way home about 8pm. As soon as I pulled onto the motorway at silverdale i was aware of this blimmin car up my date, tailgating me and also blinding me with his lights.
I felt uncomfortable with that so gave the throttle a few blips and worked my way thru the traffic to get away from it.

Next thing there are red and blue lights behind me. As soon as the cop approached me I told him what was going on and he looked away with a slightly sheepish expression on his face.

I cracked up and said "oh shit! it was you wasn't it?" he didn't admit it but said that since they were unable to get a fix on my speed (and honestly I only sped up to get away from this car!) he wasn't gonna issue me with a ticket...

Aside from that what worries me is when some genius makes a speed camera that can target/track and swivel...
...it is better to live 1 day as a Tiger than 1000 years as a sheep...

Anyone who sees one of these camera vans should either steal or vandalize it. Teach the fuckers a lesson for ripping the tax payers off.
