Any car people on here ?

Been thinking awhile about buying either a XR6 or SS commodore for a while..cant afford new and am looking to spend $20,000.been trolling the net/auto trader etc and have found plenty of BA XR6s with between 60-80000 kms...the commodores seem more expensive in that for the same money you are getting one a few years older....Ute or sedan i really have no preference.....whats the better car anyone know..not really interested in what people think is better but known faults etc would be good....ta

I'm not a car guy so can't comment on the merits of each - I just work on them for a living....and I make a better living out of Falcons than Commodores.We are just putting an engine back in a Falcon today after fixing a few little oil leaks - I've never even pulled a cyl head off a V6 Commodore,let alone pulled an engine out.

Tell them gas is going up again, offer them half what they're asking.

We recently purchased a 2001 Holden Commodore S, $22,000 in the yard, managed to pay $19,500 cash, Giltrap Holden. Did a lot of research on the car before we purchased & had a lot of good feed back concerning reliability. Also the fuel consumption is very good. So far the car is problem free & purring like a kitten. Hope that helps

S&S did you look at similar falcons or just the holden...just wondering if you did what swayed you to the holden...to be honest the further into this i go the better the holden seems....the Ford seems to be plauged with mechanical problems which seems strange...i have had a few falcons way back and they were great....been told to stay well away from AU falcons so was trying to get some feedback on the BA.Not to worried about fuel consumption as we have a couple of runabouts for work etc.would love an SS ute but dont mind admitting i like the look of the BA falcon as well.

We honestly weren't fused about weather we purchased a Holden or Ford. We considered both the cars but stories kept coming back about small problems with Ford, XR6 to be exact. After driving both cars the Holden just seemed like a nicer, stronger more sporty car. Haven't looked back.

Fords arnt reliable. We have a ford courier at work (newest truck we own) and its broken down the most out of all of them.

I second that. Our place has never done that since the V6 Holdens come out, and we get a shit load of them in.

The missus has a BA XR6 and it seems ok, nothing has gone wrong with it. Mind you it gets not a lot of use as she has a company car. I had a BA XR6 ute and it was no end of probs especially the brakes. I got sick of it and sold it and now have a Hilux.
I had 2 AUIII Falcons XR8s. One needed the engine to come out at 17k as the motor was knocking so I traded it on the BA. The AU also had 6 CD units as they kept blowing up, as well as untold electric window switches.
The last Holden we had was a VX SS V8 5.7, we brought it new in '01 and it drunk oil, but prior to that the Ecotec V6 from the VS upwards was exceptional.
The dealer told me the were pulling engines all the time doing ring jobs, on the 8s.
