    Question about knee pads

    Hi everyone

I read that a few people use MX knee pads for road riding, but has anyone had any experience with knee pads made for street riding? I found a couple of kinds online, by Alpinestars and Icon
    Alpinestars Reflex Knee Guards
Icon Leg Field Armour <-- interactive website so couldn't post the link, go Products -> Armour to see them.
The Icon ones look good, but seem a bit bulky (and aren't exactly cheap). I mainly use my bike for commuting so I just ride with Shift jeans and am looking for some impact protection for my knees. Any advice? Thanks

Two toilet roles and some duck tape mate. Best to keep the cost down...

Duct tape would be rather painful to remove from the leg I'd imagine...

But I can imagine they'd be pretty handy if you were out on a ride in the middle of nowhere and were busting to go.....

I usually stick it to the out side of my jeans, that way you dont need to keep takin the roles off.

Haha would that work? Toilet paper rips too easily, sometimes while doing what they're designed to do (don't you just hate when that happens?)

What are you trying to achive?
Most falls involve palms of hands, collarbones, shoulders and skin off your buttocks. Normal riding gear / gloves & jacket deal with that.

Do you have sensitive knees or is there something I am missing?

Ixon and Spidi both do fabric pants with removable knee armour. $159.00 for the Ixon, $399.00 for Spidi.(These have waterproof liners too)

    I didn't know Ixion was a tailor?

I thought he was a bean counter of some sort.

Where to get the Ixon pants? And how do they look? I only have a small bike so mostly just using it for commuting, meaning I want to get off the bike and look normal, not like I have these big huge padded pants on, which I noticed is what most leather gear is like. And I think walking around a mall or something with padded pants wouldn't be too comfortable either...

Nah it's not that I have sensitive knees, but just read somewhere on this forum that someone has seen people busting their kneecaps after falling off, so just wondering if I should get some protection just in case... What would people recommend? Knee pads or no knee pads?

Shit you haven't seen my knees, or you haven't fallen off much (i have for the record) and ya knees/shins get fucked easy

Can't go wrong with the Icon stuff mate, top kit indeed. if i'm wearing jeans for whatever reason i use the stuff i use on my downhill pushbike, that covers knee and shin, obvisouly leather with built in armour comes no better but for general street use you can get away with armour under riding pants, it's not worth not having any protection on in a fall and once your knees are rooted it's a long way back to recovery (if you can recover fully from it).
