I dont think obesity counts as a medical condition that should not be tazered.

In fact I think they should tazer any fat people trying to enter a take away.

I suggest a ten page health questionnaire - including lots of questions about the socio-psycho-spiritual conditions that lead to them being in this unfortunate situation. Tariana will be able to help with the design I am sure.

I dont completely trust the police to do the right thing 100% of the time, but I think from all the police I have encountered world wide, they are the best I have seen, and the least armed. (Perhaps this is related?)

Im not keen on the police being more armed than what they are but I think the tazer is a good compromise, will it be abused? Probably, but not widely. I think at time the cops have a genuine need to have more power than a bit of spray and a baton which is none lethal and not a potential nightmare if the bad guys get there hands on it.

Bitch about the cops all you like, talk tough, but life would be alot worse without them about. Whether you have a gun or not.

I have never said that we would do better without any pigs, and nor have I heard anyone make such statement. (besides I like my bacon)

However I always do say that we need "better" and more responsible pigs and that seems to be the main argument by the non pig lovers - that the pigs in general are not to be trusted that we need more responsible pigs or the piggy system/organisation needs to be reviewed.

I definately would not want to live in a place where there is no policing. But living in a country where you fear the pigs almost as much as the lack of policing is just as bad.
I have deep pockets. It's just that it's a deep empty pocket...........

It's so typical of NZ, that when the US Justice Dept is investigating Tazer use, our Police force 'trials' them with no public consultation.
    We are a Police State.

You sucker, you believe ANYTHING negative ya read don't you?

The Tazer fatality figures are from the USA where they use a far more powerful form of Tazer - unlike the 'soft' type in this country.(Why does NZ always go for the soft option?)

And a good proportion of those US fatalities would have died anyway from gunshot if the tazer had not been there. (I guess they picked a bad day to be a Tazer target)

And you too Lou know the Tazer we have are NOT as powerful as the suppose 'dangerous' US models.

I'm looking forward to 6 month's time when we hear about Dairy robberies where the perp used a police issued Tazer for the robbery - it's only a matter of time before they fall into the wrong hands.

Think how easy that would be - and they would never be done for attempted murder either....if they killed someone they would be done for manslaughter and that would create the precedent for police officers to be charged with manslaughter every time a tazering went wrong.

What a wonderful can of worms has been potentially opened!

Yeah ya wouldn't want to be fucked up the arse by one of those as it was ejected from a shot gun at high speed!

We used to have one at home that my brother had been given by some chick from the Falls road - don't ask, a police state will do strange things - anyways we used to give it to our boxer dog as a chew. Now this fella could destroy anything, yet he would chew this thing for hours and hardly make an impression. they do look like dildos though don't they...

The thing that worries me about non lethal devices like tazers and such is the name. I reckon the fact you can fire at some one and know you can't kill them will make you much more likely to go trigger happy. At least if the cops had guns they would know that one shot can kill, even when fired by the most cockeyed marksman. It comes down to responsibility - fire a tazer and your conscience is clear, you have caused huge pain but haven't taken a life, fire a gun and you have killed someone...that might make you stop and think before you fire...What was wrong with battons again, atazer only good for one shot anyways, at least a batton can be used again!!

I say GREAT !!! if a cop gets in a situation where he/she is in danger tazer the fucker, why should he be put at risk doing his job on the count of some drug user or Drunk on the street.
Tell ya what, I challenge any one of the "Tazers should be banned brigade" to go and do a couple of nights on a friday or saturday and see what ya opinion is then.

I think you just summed up in a few words exactly why the police should NOT be permitted them. Too much risk of a copper with the same attitude.

Clearly, you agree that the Taser WILL be used by police as a "punishment" - rather than to protect themselves. yes?

Why Tazer a police officer for getting in trouble? That's not very nice is it?

Sorry Quas - couldn't resist - see where you're coming from really.

Don't really have an opinion on this - New Zealand believes it has a crime problem - I grew up in Glasgow and I can see that New Zealand DOES NOT have a crime problem. If there was a crime epidemic do you really think the Poloice would have the resources to give out all the traffic and speeding tickets we whinge on and on about?

Police fulla (commissioner or sumthin) on telly this morning saying that they would only be used where there was a possibility of a suspect being violent.

    Possibility of being violent?
